Recently divorced Melanie and her son Jason visit a remote island for Christmas, only to find themselves running a real working lighthouse where she connects with the curt but cute owner. Starring Chelsea Hobbs and Stephen Huszar.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Melanie walks around a work holiday party on her cellphone in a sparkly dress and a face full of makeup. Her co-workers make fun of her for working too much. Melanie has a teenage son who hates her and is recently divorced. She isn’t ready to date but looks hot.
When her ex-husband cancels a ski trip with his son, Melanie decides to book a place on St. Nicolas Island in a lighthouse. She tells her son, Jason, who isn’t impressed. (Especially when they learn the lighthouse doesn’t have wifi.)

Earl, the town driver, takes Melanie and Jason to town to meet the owner of the lighthouse, Peter; he tells her that they are the lighthouse’s keepers for the Christmas holiday and are in charge of decorating the lighthouse for a Christmas festival. Peter hates the holidays, so he rents the lighthouse for others to decorate. Melanie is annoyed because she didn’t read the fine print.

Jason is angry at his mom when she goes through his things and finds a plagiarized paper. He has a lot of teenage anger and isn’t thrilled to work on the list Peter provides them. Eventually, Peter comes by to help them decorate and encourages Jason like a father would.
Decorating montage!

A town Christmas party is next, and Jason is teamed up with another teen girl he likes. He starts being less terrible. Peter lets Jason win so he looks like a stud. Melanie is thankful for his thoughtfulness.
Peter offers to help Jason with his school essay, and they bond over having neglectful fathers. They also talk about Morse code.
Jason meets up with that hussy from the Christmas party, and she invites him to her boat to watch the fireworks. Jason gets approval from his mother and then spends the night watching the fireworks… under a blanket!!!!!!
Peter helps decorate a Christmas tree at the lake house, and Melanie gives him his mail but misses that. HE IS BEHIND ON HIS PROPERTY TAXES!

Jason finally appreciates his mother; it isn’t even the film’s end! WOW!
Melanie tells Peter the REAL reason that Jason’s dad canceled on him. He is starting a new family with his new fiancee, who is pregnant and doesn’t want Jason there.
Peter tells Melanie that he is enjoying this holiday season with her. They do town square things, slow dance in a barn, and he even walks her home to the lighthouse, complete with a Christmas kiss. Jason sees them kissing from his window and has some feelings about it.

At the Christmas tree lighting festival, Jason and Peter are selected to flip the switch. Melanie watches on proudly, and Jason seems happier than ever. A building inspector buying the lighthouse from foreclosure mistakes Melanie for Peter’s wife and tells her about Peter’s lighthouse troubles. Melanie is heartbroken that Peter would turn his back on the town and the lighthouse!
The following day, Melanie wakes up to find Jason has already left the house. She searches for him but cannot find him because he has stolen a boat and gone missing. Jason’s boat stalls out, and he is stuck in the middle of the ocean.

Peter literally kisses the lighthouse and then looks for Mores Code to find Jason. Jason was running away because he overheard Peter and Melanie arguing and learned that his dad is having a baby and replacing him. Melanie tells Jason that she is his lighthouse and loves him so much.

Peter decides to not sell the lighthouse. Melanie decides to invest in the lighthouse WITH Peter. They kiss on top of the building in terrible lighting and start their lives together. Peter gives Melanie a gift of a lighthouse snowglobe, which is a little on the nose, am I right?
