When Caris is hurt by Dr. Marrick, her world comes crumbling down. Faced with delays from the police and desperate for justice, she follows Dr. Marrick and finds him on the train tracks. She manages to get the intoxicated doctor in her car and traps him in her basement to give her time to find the evidence she needs to lock him away, but when her friend Renee kidnaps him, intending to kill him, Caris is faced with a crisis: she must act quickly to find and save the very person who hurt her, so that he can be turned over to the police and justice can truly be served. Starring Natalie Brown, Damon Runyan, Lora Burke, Lara Amersey, and Morgan Kelly (2024).
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Social Work professor Caris Carter lectures to her class about justice and revenge. (Then she jokes about sugar in her gas tank? What the hell!)
Her husband/chef husband has dinner cooking for Caris and buys her a cute gift because they are trying to have a baby. Caris will meet with a fertility specialist while Jon goes out of town for work.
Caris meets for coffee with her friend Julia, who is suspiciously concerned when she hears that Caris is leaving the city to see Dr. Ryan Marrick. (What is up, Julia? You’ve got something to say?) Later, she says she wishes she had said something. I hate Julia now.
Dr. Ryan Marrick is handsome, but he is quick to go for the pelvic exam and complements her legs. Then he molested her on the table. Caris is visibly upset, and the doctor quickly leaves the room. While pulling herself together, Caris notices a hidden camera in the exam room, and she is horrified. Caris sneaks into Dr. Marrick’s office and sees the video footage on his laptop. As she attempts to record the laptop with her phone, security throws her out.
Caris reports the sexual assault to the police. Jon is by her side and blames himself for not joining his wife at the appointment. The police get a warrant based on other allegations that they didn’t take seriously and find nothing, which really frustrates Jon and Caris.
Caris vents on social media, and then her post goes viral. Unfortunately, many other women have experienced the same thing with Dr. Marrick. Caris starts a private support group. (She does have a social work background!)
The group meets in a swanky seating area, encouraging the other women to feel stronger. Julia is there, and I’m not sure why.
Jon leaves for his work trip and is worried about leaving his wife alone. He suggests that Caris get counseling, but Caris promises she will be okay.
Caris is not okay. She talks more with Julia and gets the idea to confront Dr. Marrick. Outside of his office, she sees a drunk Dr. Marrick stumbling out of his vandalized office, “Marrick is an Abuser.” He gets in his car and gets drunk, drives to a train crossing, and lies on the tracks. (Okay, THAT is DRAMATIC.)
Caris follows him and sees what is about to happen. She drags him off the tracks, puts him in the back seat of his car, and steals his office keys.
The following day, Caris talks to Jon and doesn’t mention anything that happened the previous night or the fact that she KIDNAPPED Dr. Marrick and is holding him tied up in the basement.
At the support group, Renee teaches everyone self-defense. Caris isn’t a fan of violence and asks Renee to tame it. Julia is there again and interrupts another woman while sharing her trauma. (Julia seems so shady! What is up with her?)
Caris uses the key she found to look in Dr. Marrick’s office. She doesn’t find much, but she does take paper out of the paper shredder. Security almost catches her, but Caris gets away undetected.
Back at home, Caris pieces together the torn-up papers and has a list of names. She shares what she found with Renee, who admits Caris’ optimism is inspiring. They decide to work together to search for more evidence to incriminate Dr. Marrick and take it to the police. Renne is a journalist trying to track down Dr. Marrick for the story. (Little does show know, he is in Caris’ basement.)
They end up in Renee’s cabin drinking hot chocolate?!?!?! Renee talks about the injustices in her sexual assault. Including the judge reducing the sentence for her assaulter because “he didn’t want to ruin his life.”
Caris goes back home to check on Dr. Marrick. She puts on her ski mask and heads to the basement, but there is a knock at the door. Caris rushes upstairs and almost steps out with the mask on. It is the detective; he is looking into Dr. Marrick, who is now a missing person.
Back in the basement, Dr. Marrick unties himself and plays dead. There is a struggle, and the masked Caris regains control of the situation. She demands to know where the recordings are, but Dr. Marrick doesn’t seem worried.
Julia shows up at the door and interrupts Caris’ interrogation. She notices a cut on Caris’ hand and hears noises.
Caris has a women’s support meeting at her house for some reason. Dr. Marrick. He breaks out of the basement, and Renee tackles him. She freaks out and asks WHY Caris has the psycho doctor tied up in her basement. Caris tells Renee that she just wants justice and needs help. They agree to put Dr. Marrick back downstairs.
The ladies return to get the recordings from Dr. Marrick’s office security guard, who always keeps a backpack of the files with him. Caris sneaks in again and copies the files to a flash drive. On her way out, she faces the security guy and makes a run for it. They make out of there quickly, with Renee as the getaway driver.
That night, Caris falls asleep but is awakened by shouting in the basement. Renee ties Marrick up to a dolly and wheels him out because the system will never handle the situation and will never find justice. Caris tries to stop Renee, but Renee pushes Caris aside, causing her to fall and be knocked out.
Laura reappears and demands that Caris tell her what is happening. They go to Renee’s cabin and watch from outside as Renee tries to beat a confession out of Dr. Marrick.
Caris enters the house through a trap door and tries to reason with Renee. She shows Renee that the recording has been secured. Before Renee has a chance to consider, security guard Rodney shows up with a gun. Renee grabs the gun from him, and he is tied up next.
Renee is not convinced that justice won’t be served and goes to shoot Dr. Marrick. Caris goes for the gun, and there is a struggle. Julia rushes in to help her friend, and Dr. Marrick recognizes her. He tells her that she is his favorite patient. He sexually assaulted her, too, but she chose never to think of him again because he didn’t matter. (She records this conversation for evidence.)
Jon shows up with the police, and they arrest Dr. Marrick. The detective is like, “Uhh, did you keep him in your basement?”
In court, Dr. Marrick is found guilty, and John and Caris are having a baby! The end!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
This movie tackled complicated issues with some finesse. There was advocation for justice in the system while exploring some revenge fantasies. It was a good depiction of both sides of the coin.

Was so excited to watch after seeing your 5 glasses of wine. That doesn’t happen every day. Was happy she went to her husband right away. Anything seems off, my husband is the first one I am speaking to. But of course, then the secrets and lies start. Don’t understand why women do thay. Like the “Son with Doctor’s face” movie, where the wife didn’t say anything to her husband until it was too late. Hate those scenarios
At least husband senses something was off. And Rodney…really let that woman get gun off him super easy. Practically slapped it out of his hand😅. And without gun how was he subdued so easily?! Overall, an enjoyable watch. Lifetime is trying to be good again.
