Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Morgan stalks his way into the lives of busy social media influencer Lani and her son, Jaylen, to become their “manny” (male nanny). As Morgan shows himself to be someone who is too good to be true, he meddles with Lani and Jaylen’s lives behind the scenes. When Lani learns that the real Morgan was murdered, she realizes her manny is a killer. After witnessing his own mother be murdered by a violent boyfriend as a child, Morgan’s goal has been to ensure mothers make their children their top priority. Unable to break from his murderous streak, Lani kills Morgan to protect herself and her son, leaving her unable to place Jaylen into anyone else’s care but her own. Starring Michael Evans Behling, Joanne Jansen, Hailey Summer, Jamaal Grant, and Ashton Ayres (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Morgan is out of a job as a manny. His boss, Rebecca, fires him and tells him to stay away from her son. He is quickly onto the next and finds a new woman and son to fixate on. Lani and her son, Jayen. They do cooking shows online called Kitchen Rebel.

Something offputting that she is putting her kid on her youtube show.

Lani has a support network of friends, including athematic personal assistant Mercedes and superficial neighbor Shannon. Morgan appears on Lani’s doorstep, and Shannon is drawn to his chiseled face and hot body. Lani isn’t interested in hiring a man for the nanny role, but he and Jaylen bond over basketball. Morgan has references and impressive credentials. After they bond over homeopathic home remedies for headaches. (Peppermint oil!) and neck massage, it is a done deal.

Lani’s ex-Darren walks in on the intimate moment and disapproves of Lani hiring someone so good-looking and young. Mercedes is skeptical, too. That is why she is the first to go—the old Looney Toon bit of putting cooking oil on the stairs. Mercedes goes flying down the stairs.

Lani cancels a date with a handsome man named Zack to spend more time looking into Morgan’s references. After one phone call, Lani invites Morgan to join her and her son on a hiking trip. (Since Mercedes can’t go with her broken leg.)

Montage of cabin life, which includes lots of shirtless Morgan. (Which I was REALLY into!)

Oooooo! This wood chopping was hot!

Morgan makes cookies and drinks wine with Lani while talking about his mother. She passed away and was in an abusive relationship before she died. Lani can relate to this because her ex-Darren neglected her and her son with work obligations. The wine gets to them, and they start making it out. Lani pumps the breaks and tells Morgan that tomorrow is his last day. He crossed a line, and they needed to do what was best for Jaylin.

The following day, the car won’t start. Jaylin is acting like a real jerk to his mom about her dating Zack, and Morgan has a Greg Brady talk with Jaylin about respecting his mother. Morgan thinks he has smoothed everything over, but Zack shows up to give Lani and Jaylin a ride back home. Leaving Morgan at the cabin with the broken-down car. (To add insult to injury, Lani calls Morgan a “kid.”)

Morgan stops by to pick up his final paycheck and brings a pie. (He wants to be a baker.) Lani decides to keep him on until he can save up for culinary school, and they hug it out.

The neighbor Shannon is excited and invites herself to eat some apple pie. She shows him the sex app that she is on, and he makes her a smoothie with some meat in it?

Mercedes shows up to film some YouTube videos on crutches and is a MESS! She is surprised to learn that Morgan is still employed. She asks Morgan for his social security number, and he laughs it off, claiming he does not need health insurance. He is a young, fit guy!

Poor thing doesn’t get any sick time?!

Zack shows up for a date, and his jacket gets slimed. Morgan hopes it will ruin the date, but Zack isn’t phased. Lani puts Jaylin in timeout, and later, Morgan tries to convince Jaylin that Zack is a liar and not good for Lani. When Lani comes home, she finds Morgan shirtless in her bed, and he asks her if there is anything he can “do” for her. (Yes, he can! She starts to have sexy dreams about him.)

I would never kick this man out of bed!

There is a rash of break-ins in the neighborhood, and Morgan takes the liberty of installing security cameras. Morgan also invites himself over to do handy work at Mercedes’ house and smooshes her in her Murphy bed after she finds an article online about a missing manny being found dead named Morgan and puts it together that Morgan has stolen this man’s identity.

He is even hot when he is smooshing a lady!

Shannon gets a like on her hookup app from Zack and tries to give Lani a heads-up. When Lani confronts Zack about being on the app, he claims it is a fake profile. Lani wants to keep things professional since they work together and everything. Zack tries to prove that someone made a fake account.

Something happens with the police, IDK! Morgan sleeps over to keep Jaylin and Lani safe. He makes them breakfast the next morning and answers the door when Darrin comes by to pick up his son for his day. Morgan takes Darrin’s coat and steals a yellow light from the pocket. (He plants it on Jaylin’s bed to make Darrin look like a bad.)

When Mercedes doesn’t show up for work, Morgan fills in as Lani’s assistant, and she barely misses her. But she checks Mercedes’s room and finds her friend in the Murphy’s bed. Lani finds comfort in bed with Zack and the next morning with an intimate hug with Morgan.

Zack runs a background check on Morgan Washington and snoops through his apartment. He finds a journal with a picture of Lani and Jaylin on the cover. There are two other journals from previous families and an obituary for his mother, who died at 40!!! Morgan finds Zack going through his things and strangles him to death. (NO ONE CARES!) He sends Lani a breakup text from Zack’s phone.

Lani needs to film more content for the show, and since all her friends are dead, she only has Morgan to help produce the videos. Morgan tells her that he will do anything for her and they hook up. While lying in bed, Lani looks at his bracelet that has his mother’s name on it, Cassandra Cross.

Rebecca, Morgan’s old employer, messages Lani after she posts a picture of her with Morgan on social media. Rebecca explains that Morgan is crazy and that they are in similar situations. Lani could be in danger. Lani calls Darrin and tells him to come over right away.

Morgan is at Lani’s door with flowers, and Lani tells him to leave and never come back. Darrin joins Lani at his cabin to help look after Jaylin. They seem to be giving their relationship another go. Darrin is thankful for another chance.

On set in the makeup chair of her cooking show, Zack’s assistant brings the article, and Lani rechecks the reference. It was a real reference but for the dead, missing Morgan. Lani rushes back to the cabin and calls Darrin to tries to warn him. (It’s too late, Morgan knocks Darrin out with a dumbell.)

Lani comes home, throws a pot of hot water on Morgan, and runs into the woods. He tries to stab Lani with a hiking stick but falls on it instead. As he dies, he says he just wanted to have a happy family. Everyone is saved!

Lani hires a female nanny this time, and they seem sketchy, too! Lani is going to have to watch her own damn kid!

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

Another Tubi Original that Lifetime acquired all after the fact.

I once was smooshed by a friend in a Murphy bed at her request, and it was really funny until the bed went down and broke her toe.

“Couch” is a Canadian accent tell, good to know!
