Hannah (Mackenzie Cardwell) moves in with a charismatic Amish leader, Aaron (Ryan McPartlin), to help with his ailing wife. Seeking refuge after leaving her Amish community, Hannah is grateful to Aaron and his wife for opening their home to her and giving her work but as she tends to her household chores, the spark between her and Aaron is undeniable. Hannah knows their secret relationship has them both living in sin, so she decides to end it, but when Aaron’s wife suspiciously dies, she finds herself framed for murder and fighting to prove her innocence.
Recap/Wine Thoughts!
Inspired by “Actual Events.”
The movie starts with a horse and buggy driven by a hunk Amish man named Aaron. Aaron picks up a scorned Amish woman named Hannah to live in caretaker for Aaron’s sickly wife, Sarah. (Who suffers from ALS? She also has a life insurance policy out!)

At church, they welcome Hannah and shun another Amish woman for “enticing married men.” Later, Hannah makes friends with the woman and learns that Miriam was sleeping with an elder, but she got all the blame. It rubs Hannah the wrong way, and she mentions it to Aaron while gardening. He asks her why she was excommunicated, and she tells him that she was caring for a bishop who overdosed on medication. Hannah was blamed.

Sarah and Aaron have two teenage daughters who are all up in Hannah’s business. Grace and Rachel take a quick liking to Hannah. Rachel takes advantage of the newbie and asks Hannah to use her ID so she can drink at Rumspringa.

While playing Blitz, Hannah learns that Aaron is up for the role of Bishop despite being a young man. He is also quick to start bringing Hannah flowers and little gifts. (Like fixing a sentimental music box that belongs to Hannah.) Once he has earned her trust, Aaron is quick to push boundaries and strips his shirt off while they are alone. (Reveiling a strong body from farming, no doubt!) Then they SEXY churn butter.

Things escalate PRETTY quickly, and everyone in town, including Sarah, sees the affair going down. Hannah has reservations, but Aaron tells her that she is the woman who will give him sons. Hannah tells him that she wants to end things until Sarah passes away and he is a widow, no matter how much she wants to be with him.
Another Amish boy named Jacob has an Eye for Hannah, and he asks her out with a jar of jam. (That was easy.) He wins her over with his dancing skills from a video game he played while on Rumspringa. Hannah freaks out because dancing is forbidden, but Jacob has got some moves. When Aaron learns of the date, he becomes enraged with jealousy. Aaron tells Jacob about Hannah’s past, and that cools things off.

Sarah deteriorates quickly, starts to lose the ability to speak, and grows weaker. Aaron is quick to have his assistant locate that life insurance policy. Hannah can’t understand the new symptoms and insists they take Sarah to a doctor. Sarah dies shortly after.
Aaron eeks out those tears and finds comfort in Hannah’s arms. They sleep together, and Aaron asks her to stay on to take care of the girls and him. Hannah worries about how it will look to the community, but Aaron says it is God’s plan, so it is all good! He gifts Hannah a rocking chair, to rock their baby boy in.
Then detectives show up and start asking questions, and it isn’t all good. There are many suspicious coincidences. The detective isn’t buying what Hannah and Aaron are selling.

Hannah starts to see Aaron’s other side, and she becomes concerned when he demands that she lie to the Bishop about her affair with him. Gossip is rampant in the Amish village. The Bishiop rules that no fault is found in the rumors, but detectives have other plans. They exhume the body for an autopsy.
Aaron suddenly shows symptoms that are similar to Sarah’s. The doctors find rat poison in his system, and Sarah is also found to have the same toxin in her system. Hannah, lawyers up! (Good for her!)
Hannah talks with Aaron’s assistant and realizes that Aaron has lied to her. She rushes to the barn and finds a box of rat poison and a muddler. Aaron catches her going through his things and knows she is onto him.

Jacob stops by, and Hannah tells him that Aaron has poisoned his wife to be with her. She asks him to help her get to the detectives before Aaron tries to kill her next.
Aaron then shows up with a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine. Hannah listens to Aaron confess to his crimes and then smashes him over the head with a wine bottle. Hannah makes a run for it to the barn, where Jacob and Aaron fight over a literal pitchfork. Hannah knocks Aaron out with a cast iron skillet and ties him up until the police arrive.

Aaron is arrested, and the Bishop apologizes to Hannah but not to Miriam, who is still excommunicated!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
This a retelling of the Eli Weaver story, which Lifetime released in 2023 under the title “Amish Stud.”
Ryan McPartlin is HOT! But we just did this with Luke Macfarlane.

Really bad
I was wondering why this movie reminded me of the Amish Stud.
Very similar!
It was so-so. The Amish Stud with Luke Macfarlane was sooo much better because he’s much hotter and a better actor.
I had to do a double take. I thought I’d seen this already and had to imdb it. Amish stud was the good one!
FYI, I’m pretty sure the chick who had been ex communicated was released from that. She had gone to Hannah’s house and had told her that she had seen Laura at the market. So I guess that means she was no longer shunned?
