Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When a veteran returns to his hometown, he unexpectedly falls head over heels for a local policewoman. He’s determined to win her heart… but to do so, he must also win the approval of her three teenage daughters. It’s been a long time since he’s had people to call family, and now–home for the first time in years–he must let go of any regret or grudges he’s held onto so that he can find love and learn the true meaning of family for the first time. Stars Taye Diggs, and Meagan Good (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Meagan Good is back on Lifetime, this time with Taye Diggs!!!!

So hot

Meagan Good plays Charlie, a police officer/single mother to three teenage daughters. (We love to be a woman in uniform!) Taye Diggs plays a man in uniform, and we love that, too! (Maye uniforms are just hot?) What we don’t love is that his life is falling apart. His wife, Taylor, files for divorce and is sleeping with his best friend/assistant coach. (Taye Diggs has a job waiting for him as the high school baseball coach.)

Things keep bringing Megan Good and Taye Diggs together. First, it is a traffic stop, and then it is Taye Diggs breaking up an altercation between Leslie (Charlie’s daughter) and her boyfriend, Tim. Meagan Good sends her daughter home and grounds her but stays for a meal with Taye Diggs. (Who wouldn’t have a meal with him!) Meagan Good shares her rocky relationship with her ex-husband, and he tells her about his recent breakup. The next day, Taye Diggs brings Meagan Good, her daughter’s phone that she left behind, and asks her on a date. She turns him down. (AKWARD! But also, the man is sleeping on a mattress in a garage. Maybe he should focus on himself.)

I did not find his speeding behavior charming

Not taking no for an answer, Taye Diggs speeds down the road, hoping to get Meagan Good to pull him over again. This time, she writes him a ticket. (This grand gesture is not making me swoon. Breaking the law?!) Meagan Good thinks it is worthy behavior of a date. On the date, she tells him it has been two years since she had sex. (TMI?!) He shows her that he got his wedding ring off! (Cue a sexy sex scene, but his house is empty, and the bed is in the garage, which is decidedly not sexy!) They make out in his car as he drops her off at home. (They are super horny for one another.) They talk to one another like they are contestants on The Bachelor and are totally “falling for one another.’

It was a hell of a first date!

The fast-moving couple starts spending the nights together, and Meagan Good helps Taye Diggs through his PTSD nightmares. Levi, Meagan Good’s police partner, cares for her kids and cooks dinner while she is out with Taye Diggs. (I think Levi would be a better fit, to be honest! Or is he gay?)

Taye Diggs gets an offer to coach D1 College Football and double his salary. He doesn’t want to leave Meagan Good and her daughters but offers too much to turn down. He does, though, and steps into the dad role. It is MUCH harder than he anticipated.

Meagan Good thinks she is pregnant, but it turns out she has a tumor on the ovaries. She is rushed into surgery to remove the mass. It goes well, but Maegan Good has to do Chemo and will need extra care. She talks to her daughters about calling Taye Diggs’s dad and him moving in permanently. The daughters seem cool with it, except for a little one stuck on what “sperm” means. (Another attempt a comedy that is just weird.)

Recovered and back at work, Meagan Good is feeling a lot better. Taye Diggs is also fully invested in his relationship with her daughter. Just as things seem to be perfect, Meagan Good is shot and killed while on the job, but her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Tim!

I did not expect this!!!!

Taye Diggs is left to raise her daughters alone—that is, until their father, Lamar, shows up and wants to take the kids. Taye Diggs punches him in the face. They work out some kind of agreement, but I’m not sure. Taye Diggs quits his job, sells his car, and puts the house in his daughter’s name.

He throws them a surprise in the backyard, and he creates a safe space for them…. literally. Like with Christmas lights and other crap in the backyard. Then he tells them that he is leaving. (DAMN! WTF!) He promises to be there for them but from afar. They beg him to stay, but he leaves anyway so they can bond with their biological dad.

Flash forward to the eldest daughter’s wedding, whose ex-boyfriend killed her mother… LET’S NOT FORGET! She has her dad walk her down the aisle, not her biological father.

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

Am I the only one who wants Meagan Good to end up with her police partner, or am I projecting?

This movie has some opinions about pre-marital sex and teen pregnancy, but like it’s played for comedy?

  1. This one was sad, it was going good up until Megan Good’s character died 🙁 😔Tempted by love was way better! Loved the chemistry between the couple and the positive uplifting vibes!

  2. The movie was amazing. This was my life story so I cried until there was nothing left. For those who do not like the death scene remember this is real life for some. My husband passed in our first year of marriage, and I was left with his 16 year old son. Until you can understand what it feels like to hear “that is not your child” and experience multiple deaths I one I think opinions need to be thought about. The movie gets a 1000/10 for me.
