Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Inspired by true events. Riley March’s near-perfect life comes to a sudden halt when a car accident takes her life, leaving behind a family without a mother. As the investigation commences, the case takes a strange turn when Carrie, Riley’s sister, discovers that the accident might not be the true cause of her sister’s death. Starring Sara Ball, Andrew Fultz, and Marc Herrmann (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with a mother preparing for a night out with the girls. Before entering the car, she waves goodbye to her husband, Adam, and son. Reily suffers from dizzy spells and passes out at the wheel, getting into a fatal car crash.

If you are going to watch this, it be to see this handsome face!

Carrie, Rilely’s sister, is a journalist heading to work when she learns of her sister’s tragic accident. Carrie asks her hot detective friend for information from the crime scene and the accident report. Hot Detective Dylan isn’t sure Carrie should get involved since she is family. Carrie insists she can handle herself and stays with her parents to help out for a bit.

This kid never will never know the truth!

At her sister’s house, Carrie is surprised to learn that A) There is an attractive nanny named Lana. B) Adam hasn’t told his son, Cody, that Riley is DEAD?!?! (When is he planning on letting his son know?) Carrie makes funeral arrangements and can’t believe she is burying her sister.

The funeral goes well, except when Carrie catches Adam yelling at a man to get out. (Of course, and the fact that no one told Cody that his mother died, the kid is just eating cupcakes and chilling.) Later, Carrie stops by Adams’s work and sees him arguing with someone else over a ‘business matter.” Carrie asks Adam about the man from the funeral, and he says it is Johnny Valentine (stupid ass name!), Riley’s ex.

Carrie calls a tech friend with bangs to look into John Valentine. Alison calls with information about Johnny Valentine and his criminal record. Carrie takes the documents to Detective Dylan, and he is still hot.

Detective Dylan interviews Johnny Valentine, and he makes a run for it. A chase ensues through the woods, and the Detective tackles him and reads Johhny Valentine his Miranda Rights as he handcuffs him. It is hot.

In questioning, Johhny Valentine tells Detective Dylan that Riley felt like her life was in danger and wanted to get a gun from him. Later, Johnny Valentine calls Carrie and tells her to be careful around Adam, or she could be next.

Carrie is still convinced something happened to her sister and starts wearing a Riley necklace that belonged to her sister. She attempts to guess the password on her sister’s phone and gets the number of someone named Sarah Hallian. Carrie texts the woman and sets up a coffee date.

At Coffee, Sarah tells Carrie that she works for Adam’s firm. The night Riley died, she was going to meet with Sarah. Sarah tells Carrie that Riley mentioned feeling dizzy the night she got into the accident. Adam randomly shows up at the coffee shop too.

She does not look like Riley, at all!

The babysitter lies to herself and admits to sleeping over. Cody still has no idea his mother is dead, or if he does, the kid couldn’t care less! Carrie thinks it is weird that the nanny just got hired right after her sister was killed and looks into the agency that hired Lana.

Carrie also sneaks into Adam’s house when he is not there and finds Lana’s birth control and a terribly photoshopped photo of Riley and Adam turned facedown. She overhears Lana making arrangements to redecorate the house.

Alison comes to town to help her friend and stays in a sleazy motel. She doesn’t even last a day and is murdered in broad daylight. (Oh wait, she survives.)

Carrie is EVEN more on a mission and does even MORE research. This might be interesting if I was in journalism school, but as you can tell from my blog… I took a creative writing class in college once and got mediocre grades due to grammar.

Blah, blah, blah. Investments, ETA reports, Life Insurance, who cares! Adam sucks and poisoned his wife to be with the babysitter. Can this movie be over?

Something finally happens, and Adam breaks into Johnny Valentine’s home. He shoots him in cold blood and then leaves.

Carrie also confronts Lana, who admits to sleeping with Adam for a while and says Adam was planning on leaving Riley. She clues Lana in about the life insurance and money issues. Lana can’t believe what she is hearing.

Lana and Carrie work together to entrap Adam and get him to confess to killing his wife, among others. The police show up, and Carrie tells the hot Detective she wants to be a detective too! (Really, Nancy Drew? We couldn’t tell!)

Marc, pick better scripts!

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

The house featured in this movie was insane and not child-friendly at all.

Marla Sokoloff directed it, and I’m glad she is still working behind the camera.

  1. It seems like every house in every lmn movie is large and beautiful. Wonderful kitchen, bathroom etc. Even single people have homes like that which seems like a lot of space for one person. I wanna know what all these people do for work that they can afford such amazing houses.

    1. When I filmed my Lifetime Movie, the house was large and had a beautiful pool, you should see Cher’s house from the balcony, but it was also infested with cockroaches!!!!!!!!
