Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Three adult siblings (Lamothe-Kipnes, Dowden, Lloyd-Jones) return to their childhood home at Christmas to honor their late grandmother’s wishes and try to agree on new leadership for the family’s company. Enter Annie Merkel (Boston) – also known as Mrs. Miracle – who poses as an estate planner and uses her special brand of Christmas magic to help the family find common ground and rekindle their bonds. As the siblings try to sort things out, Charlotte (Lamothe-Kipnes) also finds herself reconnecting with Austin (Novlan), the manor’s caretaker and her first love.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

In 2006, we noticed some teens sneaking out of the house. They trudged through the snow to meet in the ever-romantic horse stables. They are from different sides of the track. Charlotte and Austin kiss and promise to be together for eternity. Austin’s dad tells him to remember his place and join the Navy. Charlotte will go off to college and forget all about him.

Flash to the present day, and Austin’s father was right. Austin has been managing the home. The matriarch has died. She left the estate and family businesses to three rival siblings. Charlotte, Henry, and Benedict.

Charlotte (Love her nail polish) lives in New York and has an autistic son. She wants that seat on the board and will show it to her brother and ex-husband, who is the boss. Benedict also wants the seat and flies in from London, leaving his British girlfriend behind. Henry is all about the vibes and dealing with the mafia. He needs to be on the board, or he will be swimming with the fishes.

Rachel Boston drives up to the house as the siblings arrive, and she is playing the ultra-cheery Annie Markel. (An estate planner.) She has a bottomless purse like Mary Poppins, but instead of fun things, it has contracts. Legal size contracts.

Henry and Benedict are less welcoming to Rachel Boston and are suspicious she is after their money. She wins them over quickly by giving them grief counseling and unsolicited advice. She also makes them decorate, and they are annoyed because that is what the staff are for.

Austin takes Charlotte to the horse stables and is impressed that she can still ride. He apologizes for leaving for the Navy. Charlotte tells him that if he hadn’t left, she would have never met her ex. She also wouldn’t have had her son Cody, who is all that matters to her. (Well, that and the board seat!)

Time is ticking down. The current board members threaten to vote for a new member themselves. The siblings search the house for an addendum to the will. As they search the house, they relive memories from childhood. Henry cries about their parents dying in a tragic car crash when they were young. Benedict finds an engagement ring that belonged to his grandmother. He plans to use it to propose. Charlotte finds her love for Austin again. This happens after she sees him bonding with her son while riding horses.

The brothers cut down a Christmas tree and decorated it together while discussing what their grandmother wanted. They decide to throw the Moorehouses Christmas gathering. They meet with Aunt Eloise to see if she has any insights, but they get no clarification.

Austin and Charlotte almost kiss, but TUBAs and a Holiday Touchdown interrupt the moment.

Cody goes missing, and everyone rushes out to find him. Henry is roughed up by the Mafia guy who tells him he will cut off his fingers. Cody is fine, and Rachel Boston finds him by the stables. He asks her where her angel wings are. She laughs and tells him they are hidden.

Benedict’s finance shows up for the big Christmas party. Charlotte and Austin decide to give it a go. Just as things are heating up, Austin gets a job in Maine, and he has to go. Charlotte is understanding.

Rachel Boston pulls some Christmas magic. She tells them to all be on the board. However, only one can be chairman. Charlotte gets the spot and rushes to tell Austin before he leaves. She wants to go to Maine with Austin and get Cody a spot at the school. She will work remotely and fly in for board meetings. They make out this time uninterrupted.

Rachel Boston flies away and leaves everyone better than when she arrived. The end.

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

Rachel Boston has been doing these movies for a long time; she deserves better than this Mary Poppins take.
