Maggie (Jansen) has been trying for years to break in as a singer/songwriter. Now faced with challenges of new apps and social media, Maggie fears she’s outdated and unable to compete in a tech-savvy world. While helping her parents on their farm at Christmastime, she meets Archer (Jeannotte), an entrepreneur who has come back to town to spend the holidays alone. Archer is developing large-scale apps and is a tech enthusiast. At first, Maggie blames him for all of her songwriting woes. To her surprise, he encourages her to get back in touch with music that really matters and write from the heart; tech can be used in a supportive role to help her achieve her dreams without replacing the art of songwriting. Archer is dealing with loss of family, and through her tight family bonds, Maggie helps Archer find ways of moving beyond years of family feuding. In this holiday romance, Maggie and Archer both discover there is merit in preserving the tried and true while making room for new ideas and methods to bring people together and help make dreams come true.

Recap/Wine Thoughts
Maggie MacKenzie sings Christmas carols, but her lipsyncing isn’t matching up! (It isn’t an Ashlee Simpson situation, just poor movie editing.) Her holiday concert tour is cut short when the headliner cancels, and Maggi’s manager tells her to head home and work on a new holiday hit! He gives her a phone loaded with songwriting apps and autotune!
Back in New York on the family farm, her parents, who are both alive, welcome Maggie. (Rare!) They try to feed her all the pie.
Archer and his sister, Piper, sit in a corporate office reviewing their Father’s assets and last will. The siblings are particularly competitive and not very close. Piper inherits the business because she will have a higher net worth by the end of the year. He decides to get away and ends up in the same town as Maggie. (He spent his favorite Christmas there as a child.)
Maggie helps on the Christmas Tree farm and meets Archer. When she learns he has never had a Christmas tree, she dedicates herself to picking the perfect tree. Archer offhandedly mentions he works for a music app. Maggie is extremely offended. She doesn’t want to be replaced by AI.
Somehow, they come around and start hanging out. Maggie helps Archer decorate the defunct town inn. She makes repairs to the place that holds his most cherished childhood memories. In exchange, he helps Maggie’s dad start marketing his farm online. The dad is super into posting videos and gets along great with Archer.
Archer sends a photo of the decorated inn to his sister, Piper. She remembers Christmas from when they were kids. She decides to bring her kids to experience what she did. The time together might bring the siblings closer. Maggie encourages Archer to embrace his family. She urges him to try to break the toxic pattern of his inherited sibling rivalry.
Maggie works on writing the perfect song and helps with the children’s Christmas pageant. Archer shows the kids his app. Will it help them with perfect pitch? Maggie is busy but suddenly gets dropped by her manager and worries that her career is over. Archer comforts Maggie in her down moment.
Piper and Archer play Funtopoly, but it isn’t fun. They have an emotional conversation about their father’s death. Piper wants to raise her kids better, and Archer promises to help her. The reunion is cut short when news of Archer’s apps leaks, and his stock blows up. This means he will get the board seat over Piper. She is jealous and feels tricked. Piper dramatically packs up the kids and leaves.
The manager learns about Maggie’s new song and wants to take her back. It becomes a thing between them, and they have their third-act fight.
Everything is resolved, including Piper returning to town for the
Christmas Pagent. Archer and Piper decided to split the Board Seat responsibilities.
It is time for the big show, but the power goes out. The town rallies together and gets all the candles and generators. The live show goes on, and we mercifully don’t have to listen to the kids sing for too long. Then, we get to see Maggie sing her new Christmas song. It is giving Meredith Brooks Christmas.
The show is a success, and so is Archer and Maggie’s budding relationship. They make out in the end!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
Jaime M. Callica just pops up in this movie all the time!
Very old school Hallmark. It was fine.
