By day Emma is a good Amish girl, but by night she sneaks out with her Amish friend, Rebecca, and together they lead a double life, going to clubs, flirting with boys, and falling in love in the forbidden “English” world. When Emma accidentally witnesses a murder while out, her life and community is thrown into peril. Lexi Minetree, Rachel Coopes, Lesa Wilson, and Ty Trumbo (2024).
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Inspired by True Events

The movie starts off with a horse and buggy. (As it should!) Amish people are walking around. Emma is the apple of her father’s eye. They forage the woods for berries or something and spot some wild onions. Emm runs back to the house to get some Amish tools, and her father goes into the woods to investigate a noise. He is murdered in the woods, and Emma finds the body! (Emma sees someone running away in the distance.)
Emma and her mother, Mary, are grieving, but the Bishop is quick to write the death off as an accidental tripping. He helps Mary with the deed and other widow things, but Emma is still sure her father was murdered.

Caleb is back from his Rumspringa, and he is having a hard time readjusting to Amish life. He told Emma he had too much fun but is ready to settle down. That is when he springs a surprise proposal on Emma. She declines and breaks his heart.

A naughty Amish girl named Rebecca hides a cell phone in her basket. Rebecca’s mother was ex-communicated, so she sneaks out to the city at night. Emma wants to join Rebecca the next time she goes out. Rebecca agrees to sneak Emma out and helps her become less Amish and live an AMISH DOUBLE LIFE!!!! They sneak out into the night, and Rebecca gives Emma a slutty dress to wear.

They literally look like they are going to Vegas. In actuality, they are going to DA CLUB!! Emma is overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of the club and hides in the bathroom. She gives her a pep-talk in the bathroom, and on her way out, she is hit on by a creep.

Enter hunk Heath; he defends Emma’s honor and scares off the creep. Heath seems like a genuinely nice guy. He gets her water instead of trying to push booze on her. He also doesn’t roofie her, which in a Lifetime movie is rare. They dance on the dance floor, and Heath shows her some moves. Emma says her name is “Jade,” and they make out. (Good for her!) Heath wants to hang out and invites her to brunch. Since she doesn’t have a phone, she just tells her to meet him tomorrow. Rebecca gives Emma a cell phone in case she changes her mind and wants to meet Heath. It is the perfect night. (Well, until Caleb sees them sneaking back home.)
Emma sneaks out to meet Heath and even skips out on an Amish Town Meeting dramatically. The date goes well, and Heath opens up about his past relationship. He invites her to go to his place, which is REALLY NICE. Here, he makes margaritas, and they enjoy them on the patio. Heath has to leave for work suddenly. He invites Emma to stay at his place while he is gone, and she decides to stay and enjoy the decadent lifestyle. (Which is decidedly not Amish.)

Emma lounges by the pool, watches TV, and enjoys a bubble bath. Then she hears a woman scream and finds a body in the kitchen. Emma is knocked out and then comes covered in blood with an Amish tool (Like to shuck wheat or something?) next to her. She cleans herself up, scrubs the murder weapon, and rushes back to her Amish life.

Heath comes back from his work trip and is like, WTF!!!!!!!! (Which is understandable.) He calls Jade to find out what the hell happened. Meanwhile, Jade/Emma is burning her clothes and phone in the woods. Rebecca catches her, and Emma breaks down, spilling everything that went down. Rebecca helps her cover up her tracks. (Like bury the murder weapon level of help!)
Caleb is still trying to marry Emma and goes to Mary to ask for Emma’s hand in marriage. Mary gives her approval (Like, let it go, BRO!)

The Bishop calls all the young women to line up to be identified in a police investigation. Heath is there, and he walks the line to try to pick out “Jade.” He points out Emma, and everyone is scandalized! Emma is brought into police custody as a suspect in the murder.
Mary sits in on the questioning. Emma learns that the slain woman is Heath’s wife. Later, Emma sits down with her mother and comes clean. Mary promises to help her daughter. Mary gives Emma plain clothes and sends her out into the English world to find the answers to who REALLY killed that woman.

Emma, out of Amish gear, is really giving Lifetime Sidney Sweeney. She goes to Heath to learn more, which is probably a mistake. He invites her into his home and hears her out. She asks him to help her figure out who murdered Heath’s wife. Heath explains that he is separated from his wife, and they don’t live together. Heath calls a neighbor for doorbell camera footage to see who is coming and going from the home. They review the footage and see a shadow of someone wearing an Amish hat. Caleb followed Emma to the house!

Emma thinks she has the whole thing solved until she browses from a photo album and sees Heath with the guy who harassed her in the club. Heath was “White Knighting”!!!!!!!!! He manipulated the situation and lied to Emma. Emma confronts Heath, and he reminds her that she was lying too about not being Amish and named Jade.

Heath takes Emma to confront Caleb, who just happens to be wood chopping. (Unfortunately, not shirtless. #AmishStud) Caleb denies everything while waving an ax around. He grabs Emma and tells her he loves her, so she knees him in the balls and runs to Rebecca for help. Emma tells Rebecca that Caleb killed Heath’s wife.
As Rebecca changes, Emma finds a photo of Heath and a pair of earrings from Heath’s wife in her basket. Heath and Rebecca are working together! Emma tries to take Rebecca out, but Rebecca pulls a knife on her friend.
Heath finds the murder weapon and goes to Emma’s house. He takes Mary captive.

Emma and Mary end up in the woods while Rebecca and Heath reveal their indiscretions. They killed Emma’s father and plotted the whole thing to stop Emma from looking into his death any further. Heath has to kill Emma and Mary to wrap things up, but Caleb rushes to save them.
Emma grabs the knife from Rebecca and stops her. Meanwhile, Mary comes to and punches Heath in the head and prevents him from beating Caleb to death.

The police arrest Heath and Rebecca. Emma returns to her Amish life and kisses Caleb on her front porch. I guess she is into him now?
Stray Thoughts
Amish is HOT HOT HOT on Lifetime still.
Ty Trumbo’s second Lifetime movie of the year! So happy to see him getting it done. (but can he please play an Amish man with a beard next time?! Hahaha!)
