Jodie Sweetin is a newly separated mom who must fight to save her son (Alexander Elliot) from falling victim to the dark side of the internet in the new Lifetime original movie, Dateless to Dangerous: My Son’s Secret Life.
Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with a definition of an Incel.
Jodie Sweetin plays mother, Noelle Miller, who is raising her two teenage children, Hailey and Miles. She calls 911 on her son for stealing her husband’s gun from their home.

Miles shows his little sister Hailey around her new high school. He claims to have a crew of friends, but it is really just one kid named Sam. Hailey is instantly a hit at her new school because she is pretty and blonde. Miles does get attention from a girl named Sophia. Hailey offers to help Miles with a “Promposal” for her. He needs help because Miles spends a lot of time online playing video games.
Meanwhile, Noelle works all day and takes care of the kids alone because her husband is MIA. They are on the brink of divorce. He is neglecting his family obligations, and his kids are resentful and struggling to afford college tuition.

Miles and Hailey join the debate team and plan their proposal. Miles rejects most of Hailey’s ideas because he doesn’t want to look like a “simp.” They go with a crime scene scenario and say he is “Dying” to go out with Sophia. Sophia is flattered but rejects him publicly.

While playing video games, Miles resorts to his online friends for advice. They tell Miles that he is a “Beta” and fill his head with misogynistic thoughts. Like, “girls have it easy” and “are easy, AKA sluts.” Noelle notices his attitude shift and attempts to shut it down immediately, but she is struggling to discipline her son without her husband.

Miles blames his sister for the rejection and begins working out in the basement, staring at himself in the mirror. To make matters worse, Hailey obliterates him in the debate club, and his best friend, Sam, starts to have the hots for Hailey. They start dating, and Hailey tells Miles her brother will get over it.
The problem is that Miles doesn’t get over it. The online friends tell Miles that Sam is just using him to get to his sister.

The debate team travels to a meet, and Noelle accompanies them as a chaperone. She does a terrible job because while she flirts with the coach by drinking wine and talking about her impending divorce, the teens drink in their hotel rooms. Miles overdoes it to drown out his sorrows over Sam and Hailey hooking up. When Miles drunkenly tries to hook up with a teammate, she shuts him down and tells him he talks to girls as if they owe him something.

Miles locks himself in the basement and gives himself a black eye to look cool? I’m not sure what his thinking is here, but he starts calling girls “bitches” and gets into arguments with his teachers. Is he doing the whole bad boy thing, or is this Incel brain rot? Miles has to talk to the guidance counselor, who is terrible at his job. Miles steals Sophia’s file when the counselor leaves the room.

Noelle confronts her son about being an Incel and takes away his Playstation or whatever. She tells him that he hates women, and when he doesn’t take it well, he says women can get whatever they want. Noelle laughs in his face. Miles then goes after his sister for her relationship with Sam. Miles kicks his former friend out of the house and pushes him down the stairs. Then he says Hailey infiltrated and stole his life.
With a black eye, Miles calls his dad and asks if he can live with him. The dad hangs up the phone. Miles locks himself in his room and resorts to his online buddies for advice. This is when he gets his dad’s gun and storms off for revenge at the prom. (Or school dance or something!) Noelle finds the messages and calls 911.
Miles goes to the school and lights something on fire. He runs away, and Hailey chases after him, screaming, “WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?” She tries to tell him that everyone loves him, but the gun goes off. No one is hurt, thankfully.

Six months later, Miles is in therapy, and Noelle is harboring a lot of anger towards her son. He tries to explain how things got so out of hand and apologizes. Hailey shows up and adds some much-needed tension relief by wearing a silly hat. This isn’t the typical Lifetime ending, things aren’t resolved, and everyone isn’t toasting their glasses. Miles’ actions have real consequences, and relationships will need time to rebuild trust.
STRAY Thoughts
Jodie Sweetin was NOT in this enough.
This felt very much like an after-school special.
