A couple hosting Christmas decides to fake their relationship for their families after choosing to separate. Working together for the perfect holiday helps them remember why they fell in love.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Spnsored by Nutella.
Liz is a baker and puts the finishing touches on a Yule Log for a holiday party. Oh, maybe she is a party planner. She rushes around her party and spills eggnog on the hottest guy possible. Like she skips a normie and goes right for Daniel, who is bad with directions.
They start dating immediately and have a dating montage also sponsored by Nutella.
Next Christmas, Liz and Daniel’s family are meeting for the first time, AND it is Christmas. Liz is stressing over the details and freaking Daniel out. He is helping out, but causing Liz more stress when the Christmas Turkey is ordered late AND got colorful lights! He didn’t check the shared calendar or do things the way Liz wants. Liz is STRESSED!!!! Their relationship is complicated, so they decide to take a Holiday Break. (The title of the movie.)
So, now broken up, Liz and Daniel try to tell their family, but chicken out. They decide to pretend to be a couple and host their families. When the hotel’s pipes burst, both extended families move into their house. Daniel’s sister knows something up, and Liz’s brother is Craig from finding Mr. Christmas NOT in a leading role. (Hallmark, WTF.)
This movie REALLY loves a split screen, and the lovers admit to their siblings that they are on a break and swear them to secrecy. That doesn’t last long because the sister is obsessed with The Parent Trap and a secret mission. They work together to end the holiday break.
Liz and Daniel keep bickering. But then Jonathan Bennett makes a cameo and gets meta about Finding Mr. Christmas.
Daniel gives Liz an engagement ring, and the family celebrates, but they are more confused than ever. It is time to come clean about the breakup, and Grandma goes for a heartwarming speech after being the most annoying character in the whole movie.
The movie wraps up with a montage to bring the couple back together to a cover of “Counting My Blessings.” Whatever works to end this movie quicker.
They get engaged, and everyone celebrates!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
Craig Geoghan‘s Hallmark Movie debut! You go, Mr. Christmas, if you don’t get a lead in a Hallmark Holiday Film next year, sue.
