A woman, Emily, desperate to find answers about her mother’s murder 22 years prior, returns to her hometown when her father, who was also a suspect in her mother’s killing, is arrested for the homicide of a local teenager.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
A reporter, Noah, interviews Emily about her childhood memories, specifically about her mother’s death. Emily is overcome with emotion, but she needs to get through it because it is a 20/20 type of show, and her interview might help find her mother’s killer.
When a teenager named Jordyn goes missing with the same MO, detectives wonder if it is a copycat or a serial killer who has returned. Brad and his son, Dylan, search for Jordyn. Jordyn works at the diner where Emily’s dad is the owner. It is a strange coincidence.
There is a press conference where Dylan and Brad have emotional breakdowns. Emily and her dad watch on, and he is the number one suspect. He is arrested by a detective with little evidence and crooked ways. The Detective is shady and working on circumstantial evidence. (He is also on the IMDB poster, so he is probably the killer.)
Emily hooks up with Noah, which is bad journalism, and he snoops around the house, shirtless, THANK GOD. This movie is boring, but the shirtless hunks are appreciated. Emily’s dog, Buffy, blows his cover, and Emily feels used.
Emily learns her father was dating underage girls, and this movie takes a dark turn. Like, why are we even going here? The movie devolves into crooked cops, pedo teachers, and it turns out Emily’s Aunt killed her sister because she found out her husband had a penchant for underage girls.
The documentary comes out, and it is a hit. Noah and Emily start dating. The end.
