Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Kathy is shocked when she finds out her son Noah’s former best friend Ethan has been murdered. She’s even more shocked when her straight-A son is the prime suspect. Kathy fights to clear her son’s name.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts in an abusive household, and mother Kathy has had enough. She takes her son, Noah, and leaves with her friend, Brooke, from work, who has a kid the same age as Noah, Ethan. The moms enroll their kids in the same school, and the boys play soccer in the backyard while they plan what is next.
Six years later, the boys are in high school. Noah conducts the school band and is a musical genius, while Ethan is the football team’s MVP. The boys aren’t even friends anymore and roll with different crowds. (And dated the same girl.) Brooke and Kathy aren’t close anymore, either. Ethan, low-key, has anger issues like his dad. Kath worries about sending her son off to college.
Ethan sneaks out of the house with the keys for one of Kathy’s real estate listings. Maddie, Ethan’s girlfriend, sends an invite to a few friends, and the gathering turns into a rager. Maddie tries to orchestrate (see what I did there?) a friend’s make-up. They end up punching each other, and Ethan’s RAGE overcomes him.
Kathy receives a notification about an open door and cleans up the mess from the party, oh, and ETHAN’S DEAD BODY. He died from blunt force trauma to the head. Detectives want to interview Noah about his impromptu kegger. Ethan blames himself and says things got out of hand. Then he slaps himself silly.
Kathy finds Noah’s bloody sweater while doing laundry and is convinced that her son is lying. Noah says he punched Ethan in the face and got blood on him, sure, but then he left! Kathy believes her son, but is going to figure out who did it because Noah looks guilty AF. (Especially after someone spray paints Murder on their house.)
Maddie and her friend, Blair, don’t believe Noah could have done it. The coach offers Noah a chance to talk about the loss of his friend with a pep talk, but Mr. Driscoll, the band teacher, searches through Noah’s locker, and Maddie checks him. Everyone is a suspect.
Brooke is devastated, but she is not forgiving Kathy anytime soon. What else is Brooke supposed to think?!?! There is a whole time-lapse scene where Brooke cries in Ethan’s sparsely decorated room. She passes out from crying, only to be awakened by a home invasion. The trespasser leaves a note stating, “It wasn’t Noah!’ Brooke brings the note and accuses Kathy of planting it, which is fair!
Blair is my number one suspect. She is mean to Noah and told Maddie that she didn’t appreciate Ethan when they were dating. The friends get into an argument at the candlelight vigil on the football field. When Brooke gives a speech, Blair looks pretty suspicious, but then Maddie is so overcome with grief that she runs to the bathroom to vomit.
Kathy finds a license plate in the security camera footage from Brooke’s break-in, and the car belongs to Maddie. She left the note. Kathy searches for Maddie and finds her body in the bathroom, surrounded by pill bottles. Maddie ends up in the hospital in a coma from an apparent OD. Oh, and since this is a teen movie, they also learn Maddie is pregnant.
Noah insists the baby can’t be his because he is a virgin. So you know he is telling the truth because what eighteen-year-old would admit that? Noah can’t catch a break because he is visiting Maddie in the hospital, and someone attacks him in the hospital room. He manages to push the call button for help, but the attacker gets away.
Brooke, Kathy, and Noah call Coach to break into the school and into Maddie’s locker to get her diary. The Coach, understandably, isn’t thrilled with the idea, but it could help solve the murder. He agrees, but then ends up slamming Kathy into the locker and knocking her unconscious.
Maddie was sleeping with the coach, and a picture of them kissing fell out of the locker. Coach ties up Kathy and swears he ended things, only to find himself in the clear after Noah and Maddie start dating.
Coach went to the party to tell Maddie that she needs to say the baby was Noah’s. Ethan overheard the argument, so Coach killed Ethan to protect his secrets and his family. Coach told Maddie that she was an accessory to murder and coerced her into helping him frame Noah, but Maddie had second thoughts.
Kathy tells Coach that he reminds her of her ex-husband and that she is not afraid of him. He pulls out a knife, but Brooke and Noah show up in time to distract him. Giving Kathy a chance to break free and stop Coach herself. They spray him with Windex and throw him into a literal sinkhole.
Noah gives a speech to his graduating class and then performs a piano piece he wrote for Ethan. The mothers cry together as they watch on. It is a bittersweet moment that is pretty effective.
STRAY Thought
Noah was the most convincing teen I’ve seen on Lifetime all year, but I still suspect he is 27.

The boy playing Noah was one of the bullies in the 2016 movie ‘Mommy’s Little Girl’ so I’d say he’s probably in his early twenties now
