Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When Zoe wakes up to find her husband murdered beside her in bed with no memory of anyone entering their home, she becomes the prime suspect. To clear her name, she must uncover the real killer and stop them before they finish what they started.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with an unhinged real estate agent in a hot pink suit making all sorts of jokes before even entering the home. It is a lot. Then the person on the tour reaches out and strangles her to death. It is pure camp and might as well be an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race. I LOVE IT!

Cut to the cute couple, Jason (Smart Kid himself, Tahj Mowry) and Jackie, who move into the neighborhood and are welcomed by Alec, whose parents owned the home before they moved in. Alec welcomes them to the family and the neighborhood while maybe sexually harassing a mailbox?

I’m not sure, but it seems like Alec and Jason have the most chemistry of anyone in the movie. If they aren’t making out off camera, I will be disappointed!

Alec walks through the house, showing the new homeowners memories his family created. Jackie is ruthless because she tells Alec she will be painting over all of them.  Apparently J&J aren’t engaged, but they bought a house together? Jason proposes while a neighbor’s dog yaps in the background.

Alec is a total 17-year-old freak who keeps stopping by to talk about his grandpa. Alec is very Leave It to Beaver. Alec also doesn’t drink, doesn’t succumb to peer pressure, and hates the realtor’s missing-person flyers. He does toast with OJ to his NEW FAMILY, Jackie and Jason. Then he invites himself over to the housewarming party and even offers to decorate. Alec is A FREAK!

The movie couldn’t wait for Alec to get shirtless, and he jumps into the pool uninvited. When he sees the changes, Alec screams at them, “Follow the rules, or face the consequences.” Alec has a meltdown, and his friends try to calm him down.

Speaking of friends, Jackie and Jason host their party, and the guests are actually just as insane as Alec. Is everyone in this movie absolutely unhinged? The parade of weirdos is interrupted by a bird slamming into the window.

Alec talks to his dad about kicking out the new homeowners. His dad is on a ladder, and Alec pulls it out from under him. The dad survives, but Alec is still a psycho. He tries to talk to his mother, who tells him he is perfect. Sooo maybe she is the problem. Alec decides to prank J&J until they decide to leave themselves. First it is a dead rat on the doorstep; next, Alec tells them that his grandfather is buried in the backyard. Then they show up with Chicken masks to scare them.

Jason and Jackie dig in the backyard and uncover a skeleton. It is a fake one, and Jackie wants to get a restraining order. They call the cops, and when Officer Tom shows up, he is sipping an iced latte. Officer Tom couldn’t care less.

Resorting to chugging wine and arguing, Jason and Jackie have no other place to go. They sold their rent-controlled apartment and are house poor. They decide to invite Alec’s parents over for dinner. And Dad is giving gluten-free Eric Roberts. Then Alec’s mother sings a song about blowing out candles that is not Happy Birthday. Let’s just say they don’t come to an understanding.

Jackie leaves for work the next day and gets locked in the garage with the car running. Jackie passes out, but Jason comes home just in time to save her. Jackie begs him to let her ask her mom to buy them an alarm system, but Jason values his pride more than their lives. He provides his own security system: him looking out the window until he gets tired.

Jason wakes up and thinks Jackie has been kidnapped. Jason gets a video of Alec wearing a chicken head lurking over their bed. They call Officer Tom, who has another latte and nothing to offer them.

Alec breaks in and puts glass in Jason’s toothbrush and peppers in Jackie’s contact solution. Jackie wants to stay at a hotel and leaves Jason alone at home. He wants to get a gun and stand their ground. As she is on her way out, Alec records Jackie threatening to kill him, which won’t look good in court.

Alec’s parents go into his room and find a dead body in the closet. He locks them in before pulling more pranks on Jason and Jackie. Jason screams that he is NEVER leaving the house.

Alec ties them up and holds them hostage with a plunger, which is on brand for this movie. What the hell?!?! It isn’t the most dire. Alec turns into a lost version of SAW where he forces Jason to cut Jackie’s finger off, and then he goes to cut them with a weedwacker? I’d be surprised if Lifetime didn’t edit a bunch of this out. Too gory for Lifetime.

Another neighbor unties Jason and Jackie, but Alex kills her brutally with some pruning shears. Alec chases after Jackie and stabs her with a grill fork. The fight sequence continues between Jason and Alec, eventually with Alec being stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver.

Alec comes to, rips out his eyeball, and goes after the couple like he is Michael Myers. The police pull up just as Alex is impaled by a mailbox. Officer Tom shows up with his Latte and couldn’t care less.

Jackie and Jason survive and still live in the house.

STRAY Thought

Wow, this was bad!

I will admit I watched this early on Tubi, and I hope the Lifetime version has some of the gore edited out because it was too much for me. So gross for no reason.

  1. Hey Patrick, just an FYI the following synopsis is showing up for a bunch of movies you send out before you recap.

    Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When Zoe wakes up to find her husband murdered beside her in bed with no memory of anyone entering their home, she becomes the prime suspect. To clear her name, she must uncover the real killer and stop them before they finish what they started.

  2. This was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Tahj Mowry was the best actor in the movie; everyone else was completely over acting especially the actor who played the psycho. I wish Lifetime would lean into their original movies and leave Tubi alone. The only thing I enjoy about Tubi movies is discovering black movies that I didn’t know existed, but Lifetime seems to pick the horribly acted ones when there are some undiscovered gems on that service.

  3. A redditor on the Lifetime movies subreddit said all the gore in the Lifetime airing was edited out, but was done in the sloppiest way possible.
I only watched the uncensored version of it on Tubi and can agree this movie was over the top in the worst way possible.
