Synopsis (via Lifetime)
When six friends vacation at the country estate of a true-crime TV star, the last thing they expect to find is someone murdered in a hot tub! Everyone is a suspect as they try to determine who among them would have the means, motive, and opportunity.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with a cheesy TV promo for Francesca Carlyle’s crime-solving show, a diva detective aptly played by THE diva herself, Joan Collins. We get a quick intro to the characters before the promo ends, and the movie flashes to 6 months earlier.
We see old college friends getting together. Devin and Sonia are newlyweds; Louisa and Sidney are nearlyweds; and Kat and Josh planned the whole reunion at the Traitor’s style mansion. The couples are indistinguishable, and their accents are even more so. Some drama comes from Louisa and Josh dating in college, but everyone parties into the night, and I’m like, WHERE THE HELL IS JOAN!!!!???
Kat lies in bed with full mascara on while her husband, Josh, gets a glass of milk and an eye full of canoodling in the stairwell. Sydney and Devin make out and chug beer. He takes a pic of the men in a compromising position.
The next morning, Sonia makes some seriously strange-looking scrambled eggs in a kitchen that doesn’t feel like it is fit for a mansion.
Louisa and Sydney go missing. Then Sydney shows up with a bump on his head. He was stuck in the basement of the castle all day. This isn’t the biggest mystery; my question is what is up with Jacob Young’s pants. Sydney tries to track Louisa on her phone, and everyone thinks it is weird that he does that. Have they never met a Gen Z? They track all their friends with ” Share my location”. It isn’t weird.
A seriously sexy pizza guy shows up, and I was hoping he was a stripper, but no. They should be calling the police instead of takeout. He is irrelevant, but call me!
Joan Collins shows up and is MUCH better than the cops. She has a few rules. No selfies. I respect it. Joan Collins isn’t into working off the clock, and plus there is no body; she doesn’t do missing people.
THEN a body shows up in the hot tub. Louisa is dead, and I can’t even remember who she was. Joan Collins tells them they are all suspects and to lock their doors because one of them could be a murderer or be the next one to be murdered.
Joan Collins interrogates everyone and does her diva detective thing. This is basically making everyone suspicious of one another.
Josh confronts one of the brown-haired guys (Devin?) about getting a BJ in the stairwell. He should be more supportive of his friend; instead, he knocked him out and locked him in the basement to give him a solid alibi. The two men were plotting to kill Louisa anyway, but someone else beat them to it. Louisa has a 10-million-dollar inheritance and recently updated her will to leave everything to Sydney.
Then Josh confronts the OTHER brown-haired guy about the BJ, and he says he only hooks up with guys when he is drunk, and he is DEF not gay.
Kat and Josh talk through scenarios about Louisa catching Devin and Sydney hooking up. I’m like, isn’t the Diva Detective supposed to be doing this? Josh owes someone money and takes a call with Alex. So if he IS working with one of the gay brown-haired guys. Kat turns up dead from a car accident, and it is not looking good for Josh. Joan Collins accuses him of trying to kill his wife, and she would know; she is the expert.
Kat turns up alive and faked her own death. The whole weekend was planned, and Kat worked with Joan Collins to reveal the truth. Josh killed Louisa and planned to kill her for the money with Sydney’s help. They were trying to frame one another to walk away with the full 10 million.
Kat and Devin inherit the money, and the boys are taken away to prison. Who is gay now?!?!
Kate and Sonia are apparently lesbian lovers. They kill Sonia’s husband with a candlestick and bury the body in the woods to cover up their crime. Joan Collins will totally figure this one out, a candlestick? Come on. She records the whole thing on CCTV and has the next season for her Diva Detective show. (And hopefully not a sequel!)
STRAY Thought
The producers watched a season of The Traitors and knew Joan Collins wouldn’t do that, but pitched this instead.
You can’t watch a Joan Collins TV movie; it is just par for the course!

I could not make it past 45 min of this movie. The convoluted plot and all the side hooking up was not my cup of tea
