Synopsis (via Lifetime)

After working abroad for years, Rachel returns home to reconnect with her daughter, Samantha. But when a terrifying man threatens Samantha, Rachel fights to save not only her daughter’s life, but the trust and love they lost along the way.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

On a stormy night in the city, two police detectives, Bear and Rachel, make a ransom drop for a kidnapper. It’s a setup, and Detective Rachel takes down the bad guy dramatically. She is great at her job, but her relationship with her ex-husband, Lee, and daughter, Samantha, isn’t as great.

Samantha is in college and doesn’t really talk to her mom because Detective Rachel was always working, then got divorced, and suddenly wanted a relationship. The mother/daughter are going to have a reunion soon because Sam has a stalker and Detective Rachel is on the case.

They meet in a coffee shop, and Sam is confused why her mom is trying to reconnect now. I guess Sam hasn’t realized that she has a stalker. They have the conversation in English and then in Spanish. I feel like I’m hanging out with my Aunts in Ecuador, haha.

Casey, Samantha’s roommate, bumps into a transfer student named Daniel, with a lot of hair. He says he is in class with Sam and thinks she is cute. A secret admirer. He steals Casey’s ID to get into the dorms for a party and elaborately drugs Samantha with the OUTSIDE of his cup, using a wet napkin as a conduit. (That’s crazy. I’m never leaving my house again.)

Samantha starts to feel woozy, and Daniel tries to steal her away, but her friend Thomas sees them and calls Casey to come get her roommate. They take Sam to the hospital, and she has fentanyl poisoning. Detective Rachel rushes to her side and calls Bear to help look into the incident.

As Sam recovers, someone sneaks into her dorm room and leaves a note that says she looks pretty when she sleeps. Sam and Rachel make a police report and move out of the dorm. Detective Rachel asks Thomas and Casey about anyone who seemed suspicious. They both mention Daniel.

Bear makes it to town and helps Detective look into school records for guys named Daniel. They determine it is one of the criminals Detective Rachel put away, who’s calling in from the outside for revenge. But which one?

Detective Rachel decides to teach Sam, Casey, and Thomas self-defense and gives them pepper spray, a tactical pen, and a personal alarm. (Are these things I should have? Casey instantly puts them to use when Daniel grabs her on campus. Detective Rachel then tracks Daniel down and beats his a$$!

I’ve REALLY lost the plot. The girls are back in the dorms, and Daniel is dressed up like school security? Thomas tries to fight Daniel off but fails miserably. Meanwhile, Casey and Sam hide under the bed, but Daniel finds them and kidnaps Sam.

While holding Sam hostage, we learn Daniel’s REAL name is Robert, and he is carrying out his dad’s plan for revenge… as predicted. His father is in the Russian mob or something. Daniel’s hair is the real star here, tossed all around and in his face, creating the most Emo killer ever.

Detective Rachel saves her daughter with the same self-defense moves she taught everyone. So good for her!
