Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When a young woman accepts the kind offer from her therapist neighbor to be treated for free, she thinks she’s found the perfect situation. But the more she learns about her seemingly altruistic savior, the more she begins to fear for her safety–even her life!

Thoughts

The movie begins with a large man walking through a house that is not his. A girl hides under the bed and is terrified. She tries to get away, but he catches her.

Next, we meet Chloe and Michael. They are moving into a new house but have no furniture. (I can relate.) In the middle of the night, while watching TV on the floor. Chloe hears a noise upstairs and grabs a box cutter. It is just the neighbors hanging out in the pool. She tells Michael about it, and he laughs it off.

Chloe meets the neighbor, Gerald, and he invites them over for dinner with his wife, Cheryl. They are therapists and run their practice out of their home. When the subject of kids comes up, Chloe and Michael are sensitive to the topic. They all drink wine and try to move on.

Chloe is locked out of the house and spends the day with Cheryl. They drink scotch and have a blast. Chloe overshares about her troubles trying to conceive, and Cheryl is very understanding. Gerald even offers to talk to Chloe about her depression, but she turns him down.

While on a night run, Chloe has a breakdown and decides to take Gerald up on his offer. He sits her down and gives her a glass of water. Chloe blames herself for not being able to get pregnant. Gerald doesn’t tell his wife that they are meeting, and Chloe thinks that is strange.

She starts getting articles and calls about someone named Caroline Rooker. Chloe decides to research the university Gerald went to when he was younger and tracks down a Dr. Contance, the dean of his school. The dean tells her that Gerald was sleeping with one of his students and probably didn’t go to medical school.

Chloe then meets with the man, and he talks about his wife cheating on him with Gerald. Gerald got verbally abusive, and then his wife disappeared. He is sure that Gerald killed his wife and tells Chloe to do something about it? I’m so confused about how this became her problem. The guy is killed in his car shortly after talking to Chloe.

Chloe breaks into the neighbor’s house and finds falsified documents. She is almost caught but manages to get out in time. The whole movie she had been focusing on Gerald, but after talking to an elderly woman who knew them when they were younger, she learns that Cheryl isn’t Gerald’s wife. SHE IS HIS SISTER.

Cheryl attacks Chloe and ties her up. Gerald and his sister tell Chloe that they are not crazy. They try to kill Chloe but don’t and Cheryl dies. Gerald lives on to do therapy in another town. Boring blah blah blah.
