June 2019- TV Movie Roundup

Happy Pride Month! TV movies do not care about pride, at all. They do care about a woman scorned and… weddings! Hallmark doubles down on its June Wedding Series while Lifetime introduces a new Book to Screen series.

Wedding at Graceland

Premieres: June 5th, 8/7c on Hallmark Channel (Already Premiered on June 1st)

Stars: Kellie Pickler, Wes Brown and Priscilla Presley.

Synopsis (Via Hallmark)

Laurel and Clay have three weeks to plan their wedding that will take place at Elvis Presley’s celebrated Memphis home. However, when both sets of in-laws, each with vastly different personalities and ideas for the wedding, descend upon Memphis to “help” plan the nuptials, the bride and groom are pushed to the breaking point.

Thoughts

Christmas at Graceland was Hallmark most watched Christmas movie of 2018, so naturally Hallmark ordered a sequel immediately. The first one was terrible, but they snagged Priscilla Presley? “Let it Breathe”

Pride & Prejudice Atlanta

Premieres: June 8th, 9/8c. ET on Lifetime  (Already Premiered on June 1st)

Stars:  Tiffany Hines, Juan Antonio, Raney Branch, Jackée Harry & Reginald VelJohnson

Synopsis (Via Lifetime)

In a contemporary adaptation of the Jane Austen classic, “Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta” follows Reverend Bennet (Reginald VelJohnson, “Family Matters”), a pastor of a prominent southern Baptist church and his wife Mrs. Bennet (Jackée Harry, “Sister, Sister”), who is the author of a self-help book on how to find the perfect husband. Needless to say, Mrs. Bennet is less than thrilled that all five of their daughters, Lizzie (Tiffany Hines, “Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart”), Jane (Raney Branch, “Being Mary Jane”), Mary (Brittney Level, “The Purge”), Lydia (Reginae Carter, “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta”) and Kitty (“Alexia Bailey”), are still single. When the very eligible Will Darcy (Juan Antonio, “Empire”) arrives in town, Mrs. Bennet sets her sights on the handsome bachelor for daughter Lizzie, leading to a modern-day, comedic take on themes familiar to fans of the novel.

Thoughts

The cast alone is an automatic “Pour it Up”

My Boyfriend’s Back: Wedding March 5

Premieres: June 8th, 8/7c on Hallmark Channel

Stars: Jack Wagner, Cindy Busby, Tyler Hynes and Josie Bissett

Synopsis (Via Hallmark)

While planning her first wedding, Annalise is shocked to discover the best man is her ex-boyfriend. Meanwhile, inn owners Olivia and Mick both have secret plans in the works.

Thoughts

I’m glad Jack Wagner and Josie Bissett are still gainfully employed, but this series needs to end. “Put a Cork in It”

Adriana Trigiani’s Very Valentine

Premieres: June 8th, 8/7c on Lifetime

Stars: Kelen Coleman, Jacqueline Bisset, Fabio Testi

Synopsis (Via Lifetime)

Based on a novel by best-selling author Adriana Trigiani, “Very Valentine” tells the story of the Angelini Shoe Company, one of the last family-owned businesses in Greenwich Village that has been making exquisite wedding shoes since 1903, but now teeters on the brink of financial collapse. To save the family business from ruin, Valentine Roncalli (Kelen Coleman, “Big Little Lies,” “The Newsroom”) – apprentice to and granddaughter of master artisan Teodora Angelini (Jacqueline Bisset, “Nip/Tuck”) – must bring the family’s old-world craftsmanship into the 21st century. Juggling unpredictable love lives, duty to their family, and a design challenge presented by a prestigious department store, Valentine and Teodora are on a quest to build a pair of glorious shoes sure to beat their rivals. Also, in the course of discovering her true artistic voice, Valentine discovers true love as she turns her life and the business upside down in ways she never expected.

Thoughts

It is basic version of Eat, Pray, Love? Lifetime spent a pretty penny on this movie, and filmed in Bulgaria. But. I. Just. Don’t. Care. “Put a Cork in It”

Love, Take Two

Premieres: June 15th, 8/7c on Hallmark Channel

Stars: Heather Hemmens and Cornelius Smith Jr.

Synopsis (Via Hallmark)

Lily produces a wedding reality show, but her success driven world is flipped when her ex, Scott, is cast as groom-to-be. Lily must revisit her past if she’s to find her own happily ever after.

Thoughts

While I am disappointed this is not a remake of the Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movie, It Takes Two. Hallmark has TWO NEW POC leads? I’m all for that. Plus a reality wedding show sounds ridiculous and I’m here for THAT show. “Pour it Up”

Tempting Fate

Premieres: June 15th, 8/7c on Lifetime

Stars:  Alyssa Milano, Jessica Harmon, Emilija Baranac

Synopsis (Via Lifetime)

Based on the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, “Tempting Fate” follows the story of mother-of-two Gabby (Alyssa Milano) whose picture-perfect marriage to Elliott (Steve Kazee, “Shameless”) is jeopardized when she meets Matt (Zane Holtz, “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”), a handsome younger man who seemingly ignites a fire and desire within her. What begins as a business opportunity soon develops into an emotional affair leading Gabby to eventually succumb to Matt’s unrelenting attraction and attention, never foreseeing the life-changing consequences that lie ahead.

Thoughts

Alyssa Milano has been absent from TV movies since 2010. I’m glad she is back where she belongs. This movie looks salacious and dramatic. Trailer Here  “Pour it Up”

Picture Perfect Mysteries: Newlywed and Dead

Premieres: June 16th 9/8c on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries

Stars: Alexa PenaVega, Carlos PenaVega. and Jon Cor.

Synopsis (Via Hallmark)

Small-town New England professional wedding photographer Allie Adams (Alexa PenaVega) finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery when the groom is suddenly shot and killed during the ceremonial first dance. Suspicion immediately turns towards Allie’s big brother Greg (Jon Cor, “Love on Safari”), the ex-boyfriend of the bride. Allie begins her own amateur investigation to clear Greg’s name, teaming up with Sam (Carlos PenaVega), the newest detective on the force.

Thoughts

The PenaVega’s are back again for another Hallmark Movie. This Synopsis is QUITE the synopsis. A groom is murdered at his wedding? That is cold, especially for Hallmark. “Let it Breathe.”

The Last Bridesmaid

Premieres: June 22nd 8/7c on Hallmark Channel

Stars: Rachel Boston and Paul Campbell.

Synopsis (Via Hallmark)

Becca is always a bridesmaid, but at her cousin’s wedding she bonds with Kyle, the videographer covering every stage of the planning. Perhaps she won’t be the last woman standing for long.

Thoughts

This is a problematic title. I guess Rachel Boston is back in the good graces with Hallmark after being left off the holiday schedule but I’m not here for this. “Put a Cork in it!”

To Have and to Hold

Premieres: June 22nd, 8/7c on Lifetime

Stars: Erika Christensen, Antonio Cupo, Andy Favreau

Synopsis (Via Hallmark)

“To Have and to Hold” centers on Alice who still can’t believe her high school crush, the dashing, wealthy and successful Joe Chambers, would choose to marry her and willingly allows him to mold her into his ideal socialite wife. Despite Alice’s best efforts to be the woman of Joe’s dreams, he can’t help but be unfaithful to her. When Joe’s indiscretions impact his career, Alice’s life is further turned upside down. Alice unexpectedly finds herself falling for her best friend’s boyfriend and begins to wonder if her fairy tale ending could exist after all.

Thoughts

Seems like a pretty basic storyline for Lifetime. If Erika Christensen goes all Swim Fan on her cheating fiance I would pour it up, but we will have to wait and see. “Let it Breathe”

Family Pictures

Premieres: June 29th, 8/7c on Lifetime

Stars:  Elisabeth Röhm, Justina Machado, Matt Passmore

Synopsis (Via Lifetime)

In “Family Pictures,” Sylvie and Maggie are two strangers living on opposite coasts, leading very similar lives with husbands that travel for work too much and daughters about to leave the nest. But when their daughters befriend each other on a college tour, they soon discover a shocking secret that threatens to tear both families apart.

Thoughts

Justina Machado is a REALLY good actress. Plus, I made her mocha latte at Starbucks once. “Pour it Up”
