Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When talented interior designer Emily Barnes (Lisinska) is hired by a foreign embassy in D.C. to decorate for their annual holiday charity ball, the newly appointed ambassador Magnus Andersson’s (Runyan) “minimalist” approach creates a roadblock between them. As Emily’s undeniable love for the holiday season begins to thaw his heart, an unexpected romance begins between the two. (2021)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Emily is starting her decorating business and has an interview for the most significant event in Washington DC, the embassy charity Christmas ball.

Magnus, an ambassador of somewhere “Balmaria?” and a single father; who raises his daughter to value the cause of the charity ball, NOT the decorations. Lily convinces her father to let her attend the ball. He tells her decorum, not decore.

That doesn’t go over well for Emily’s scheduled interview. She is greeted by Magnus’s assistant Vera, who goes against her boss’s wishes and hires the unseasoned decorator on the spot. Lily, unlike her father, approves because she loves Christmas and singing.

When Magnus finds out about Emily, he tells her that he doesn’t want the decor to outshine the charity event. (Which is to stop global warming.) He holds a press conference and comes across cold; Emily rescues him with an impassioned speech.

Magnus eventually comes around and appreciates the attention to detail that Emily pays.

Some jerk named “Big Dan” shows up, and he seems to have a history with Emily. He hates the environment, which conflicts with the cause. Magnus doesn’t like him either, but his handler promises that Big Dan is the right top donor for the event. Emily thinks it seems like a strange pairing and doesn’t tell Magnus what she knows.

Magnus asks Emily to give him and Lily a tour of Washinton D.C. It is a pretty lame tour; they don’t even go see the national Christmas tree!

Emily’s mom (Wait. Maybe she is not her mother?) and Magnus’ handler seem to be having a b-plot romance. They all enjoy dinner together and talk about Emily’s dream to make an affordable and sustainable decor business.

Christmas tree shopping, sleigh rides, and campfire chats happen. Magnus opens up about his wife, who died five years ago. Emily listens and silently thinks that she had this man in the bag.

That is until some paparazzi photos of Marcus and Emily walking in downtown D.C. He starts to distance himself from Emily.

When Emily shows up at the party, Magnus’ handler tells Emily that the gossip and bad press hurt Magnus’ ambassador position. He accuses her of staging the pictures and hiring a photographer. She storms off, upset.

Magnus tells Emily that he sent in the photos to the press. So that settles that. The queen of wherever shows up, and they raise their goal amount. Magnus speaks to everyone about the cause, and he breaks decorum to thank Emily.

Lily sings “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

Then Magnus gifts Emily a heart ornament that symbolizes his heart. They kiss, not under the mistletoe. In fact, this movie has nothing to do with mistletoe of match matching!!!!!!
