In order to make the town’s Christmas market a reality, Mayor Alex Foster (Nevin) must convince the reclusive Darcy Hawkins (Sevier) to loan out his family’s historic mill, which is no easy task thanks to a long-running family feud. But as Alex slowly chips away at Darcy’s frosty exterior, their feelings grow beyond the interest of the town, leading this unlikely duo to the prospect of love. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Mayor Alex Foster takes calls immediately when she wakes up and doesn’t stop. She directs traffic, strategizes to bolster main street business sales, and even runs into handsome strangers with large dogs. When the Mayor isn’t running the town, she obsesses over a miniature Christmas village that belonged to her late mother.
The little figurines give Mayor Alex an idea; she wants to throw a Christmas market in less than a week. She finds an owner of an Old Mill and asks him if she can have the Christmas market there. He declines the offer. He is the handsome man with the dog. His name is Darcy.
Mayor Alex apologizes for the next day with muffins and asks him if he said no because of an old family feud between their fathers. (Apparently, the Mayor’s father denied a permit to refurbish the mill.) They bury the hatchet with a game of gin rummy with Darcy’s grandmother. Mayor Alex decides to review the bill and go against her father’s original wishes.
At church, a humming choir happens. (Which is different and creepy.) Darcy is thankful for the opportunity to get his grandmother out of the house and be a part of the community again. Mayor Alex tells him that she wants to refurbish the mill into apartments for the elderly.
Darcy shows Mayor Alex the Old Mill and walks the grounds with her or pushes her down a hill in a sled. It looks fun! After going down many many times and playing in the snow, they look for the perfect Christmas tree. He invites Mayor Alex to have dinner at his place with his Gran. (Awwww!)
The dinner goes great, and Mayor Alex fits in with Darcy and his Gran perfectly. When Gran goes to bed, Darcy and Mayor Alex dance romantically in the living room. Mayor Alex goes home and puts up her Christmas Villiage.
The business owners love the redesigned mill and set up shop in a montage. The market opens and is a huge success. Darcy even makes a Christmas waterfall? Mayor Alex and Darcy almost kiss, but they are interrupted by her assistant Gina. The planning committee didn’t approve the building permit. (Mayor Alex used to date the head of the planning committee.) Mayor Alex tells Darcy straight up and promises to make it right. He worries about what he will tell Gran and suspects Mayor Alex manipulated him.
Mayor Alex interrupts the planning committee and pleas to save the Old Mill. She explains that the Christmas Market success is just the beginning of the opportunities for commerce in the town. They approve the bill, and Mayor Alex shares the news with Gran.
Darcy waits by his waterfall for Mayor Alex. He tells her that he wants to stay with her, and they kiss. Then he takes her on a horse drawn carriage.
