Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Angie Harmon stars as Hazel King, a single mother determined to shield her daughter, Joy (Lauren Richards), from the life she once had while protecting and defending those who can’t protect themselves.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with a scantily clad woman cleaning up a murder with a wet nap. Her name is Hazel King, and she might have been a hit woman?

Cut to the present day; Hazel is a grown woman who is running a diner with her teenage daughter Joy. Joy is going through a rebellious phase and plans to move in with her boyfriend, Travis. (He drives a Camino and is a deadbeat, so Hazel can’t stand him!)

A hunky man with no money and a mysterious past shows up at the diner, and Hazel King decides to give him a chance as a dishwasher. She also gives Elliott room and board and admires him while he showers.

When Joy shows up at the diner with a black eye from Travis, Hazel King gets out her old hit woman supplies. He doesn’t know who he is dealing with, and she pulls out the old moves, breaks his nose, takes him to the desert, and pushes him into a grave. She tells him she dug it the day he met her daughter, and there is nothing she wouldn’t do to protect her daughter from harm. She shoots him dead.

Joy is upset that Travis is ignoring her text messages. (Little does she know!!! ) She asks her mother what she did and warns her that Travis’ family are serious criminals. Joy loves Travis and still wants to be with him. (Even though he is dead!)

Back to Elliott. Someone in the diner snaps his photo, and he becomes upset. Hazel asks Elliott about it, but he isn’t revealing anything until she shares her secrets with him. If Elliott won’t talk, Hazel questions the man from the diner by sneaking into his hotel room and holding him at gunpoint. He tells Hazel that Elliott was convicted of murder (his fiance died in a car crash, and he was the DRUNK driver) and served four years in prison. Before that, he was a world-renowned heart surgeon.

An old hit that Hazel was responsible for was let out of jail early due to a technicality. She asks Elliott to keep an eye on joy so she can head to Vegas and meets her former boss. He essentially blackmails her into doing the hit, or he will hurt Joy.

Before completing the hit, Hazel takes some carnal comforts with Elliott. He even asks her on a date, which is sweet!

In Vegas, Hazel meets up with an old friend (and probably Joy’s dad) named Perry. She drugs his drink but is interrupted and heads back to Barstow. She somehow misses Elliott’s meeting with her BOSS! He was sent to the diner to keep tabs on her. ELLIOTT IS A BAD GUY?!?!

Elliott tries to get Hazel not to return to Vegas for the hit. (Even though he has been hired to make sure she follows through,) but she has to do what she has to do.

Back in Vegas, Hazel avoids Perry but sends him a picture of Joy to let him know he has a daughter. Then she does some Kill Bill assassin stuff. She takes out her boss’s bodyguards, takes out the security cams, and comes for the mob boss. (Oh, and he is SCARED!)

Hazel is ready to be free of him, and the boss tries to convince her that she needs him and he owns her. Hazel shoots him and thanks his dead body for teaching her the hitwoman stuff… DAD!!???!!??? He was her father. Wow.

Hazel returns to life as normal with Javi, Joy, and Elliott back home. The only problem is TRAVIS ISN’T DEAD?!?! Oh, and some bad guys attack Javi in the parking lot. Hazel is shot a few ties trying to stop the men from kidnapping a bunch of girls.

Elliott runs out and puts pressure on the wounds… TO BE CONTINUED?!?!?!? AHHHHH!!!!

Side Note

Minority Report: Javi, Phil, Perry, Carl,

The two lead actors had great chemistry; I haven’t rooted for a couple to get together this hard since Captin VonTrapp and Maria!

The writing was creative here! “Bang Buddies” instead of Fuck Buddies? Haha!

*** I’ve updated the rating system moving forward. Knives represent # of kills. Wine is over enjoyment (NOT a value judgment) on a 1-5 scale.

I will use the following tags for those who want to know whether to watch or skip: Pour it Up (Would Recommend) or Put A Cork In It (Would Not Recommend).

Gotta love Angie’s no fear attitude. Dad was obviously an asshole because 1 gunshot was for “mom”.
