When a snowstorm diverts Kate’s first private flight en route to Switzerland to Christmas Island, she must team up with an air traffic controller to secure her dream job as the family’s pilot. Starring Rachel Skarsten and Andrew Walker.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts at the airport, and Kate is up for a job as a private jet pilot. She has perfect qualifications, but the job starts IMMEDIATELY. Kate will be flying with The Sharpie Family, who are very rich. Helen and Thomas Sharpie fashion moguls who are also raising two kids. A teen who wants to just stay home for Christmas named Cali and a precocious child named Finn
Oliver is a surly air traffic controller. He has to detour the flight because of a storm and sends the jet to Nova Scotia for an emergency landing. The family is upset and wants to speak with someone on the ground, and of course, that person is Oliver. He is again the bearer of bad news; they are in a small town on Christmas Island. Oliver takes Kate to the mayor’s house, and she regrets being rude to him on the coms.
While on the road, Oliver tells Kate about the town and its charms. Kate isn’t a fan of Christmas. Then, the car breaks down, and Kate fixes the alternator. They all have to go to a town meeting before heading to rest. (Which isn’t cool!)
Helen and Thomas Sharpie try to think of every possible way to get off of Christmas Island. Kate offers her services, and Helen asks her to take care of Christmas for the kids since the nanny is already in Switzerland.
The mayor welcomes everyone and introduces her teen, Shane. Oliver turns out to be the mayor’s brother and offers his Christmas expertise to help Kate with her boss’s request. Cali and Finn spend time with Kate because their parents are too busy with business Zoom meetings.
Oliver takes everyone to make candy, barleycorn, and chicken bones??? Kate burns her hand, and Olivier tries to help her, but Kate isn’t receptive. He tells her she has trouble accepting help.
Next, it’s a slow-motion montage of everyone laughing and eating lobsters wearing Christmas hats. (You can’t make this stuff up!) Kate and Oliver have a heart-to-heart where we learn that her father died and Oliver is afraid of flying.
Cali and Finn help Jim stamp Christmas letters at the post office. They also enjoy doing simple Christmas traditions, like decorating the tree. (Their people usually do that for them.) Kate is overwhelmed with Christmas memories and sulks on the stairwell. Oliver joins her and tells her that he will give her the gift of Christmas so she can enjoy it without feeling sorrow over her father. He dresses up as Belsnickel. (like Dwight from The Office.)
Kate starts to see the beauty of Christmas Island. Then she makes out with Oliver. (I skipped some stuff here, but this is what we all wanted to see!)
Helen designs Christmas for all the ladies to wear to the Christmas Eve party. Helen has rediscovered her love of designing, and her husband is supportive. (Their relationship is surprisingly refreshing and kind.)
At the party, Oliver is impressed with Captain Kate’s lewk. The town gathers around lobster cages stacked to resemble a Christmas tree. They light it up after honoring fallen fishermen. Oliver gets a call from the airport, and there is a window of opportunity to leave ASAP.
The family packs their bags, and Helen offers Kate the private jet position full-time.
Just as they are about to taxi to the runway, Oliver calls and asks her to wait; he wants Kate to help him get over the. The family stays fine because they love the town and watch Kate and Oliver make out. The end!
