Synopsis (via Lifetime)

An unhappy wife convinces her lover to move into her attic. But when she finds him dead, she becomes convinced that her unsuspecting husband found out and is keeping his knowledge of her affair a secret to mentally torture her. Does he know the truth? Or is someone else responsible for her lover’s death? Stars Abigail Hawk, Donny Boaz, and Marc Herrmann (2023).

Recap/Wine Thoughts.

While wearing an elaborate PJ set, Phoebe dotes on her mayor husband, Ethan. Ethan doesn’t appreciate her at all. He is actually kind of a dick. When he rejects her tray of freshly squeezed OJ and waffles breakfast, Phoebe brings it up to her attic boyfriend. (Wait, wut?!??!)

OJ’s first appearance.

Lucas is a disheveled but hot writer working on his next novel in the Attic. He has lived there for six weeks undetected.

He can live in my attic

Phoebe is a pillar in the town and reads to Children at the library, and her husband is on the city council. A fellow councilor named Paula runs into Pheobe and encourages her to join because a spot is opening up, and they need more representation of women. Phoebe is reluctant to join because she doesn’t want to infringe on her husband’s territory, and the relationship is already rocky ever since their daughter tragically died.

Yay! Phoebe has a gay best friend! (And he is hot!)

While Ethan is at work, Lucas and Phoebe enjoy a charcuterie board, complete with candles. Lucas listens to Phoebe as she talks about how she wants a kid, and Ethan doesn’t want to try again or do IVF. Lucas offers to have a baby with Phoebe. The conversation is interrupted by Lucas coming home.

He is so mean!

WOW! Ethan is the worst and just mean. He tells her that her job is to be a loving and supportive wife, and she has already failed. Then he insults her looks. As he leaves, he sees Phoebe’s Gay Best Friend, Jim, jogging and catches her in a lie.

Lucas hypes Phoebe up and tells her that she is beautiful and would be a great mayor of the city. He gets excited about the life they could build together and insists they celebrate his novel being almost done with date. Then they can run off together!

Sad Hunk

The date doesn’t go well. Lucas tries to pay, and this card gets declined. Then they run into Paula, and Phoebe Introduces Lucas as her brother. Lucas storms off because Pheobe is embarrassed to be seen with him, and she is like, no… I’m married; get back in the attic.” He gets abusive and grabs her arm.

I can’t even write about these Ethan scenes because he is so scary, but then again, so is Lucas. Phoebe needs to be single and go to the gay bar with Jim, TBH!

Gays and Wine! Sounds familiar…

Jim reads my mind and brings over some wine with plenty of compliments. Pheobe rudely tells him she’ll take a rain check and slams the door in his face.

Ethan apologizes with some flowers, and he can suck it in my opinion. Pheobe makes him dinner and goes to bed with him. He shares his dreams and asks Pheobe for a fresh start. They plan a honeymoon while Lucas listens at the bedroom door and shoots Phoebe dirty looks. (Later, she asks him WTF he was thinking)

Bro, stay in the attic!!!

On a jog with Jim, he asks her about the guy in the attic. Pheobe laughs it off and runs away. Later, she decides to confide in Jim and tells him about Ethan having a short fuse and being controlling. Ethan had an affair, so Pheobe did, too, and then moved him into the attic. Jim is horrified and judgmental. (Which isn’t the best response.)

Lucas keeps coming up as an option for a writer’s event. Paula asks if he and the event organizer warns Pheobe that Lucas has a lousy reputation and anger issues.

Phoebe gets another public admonishment from her husband about a suit and rushes home to tell Lucas she wants to be with him. When she gets to the attic, she finds his dead body covered by a sheet. Phoebe calls Jim, freaking out, and then she calls 911 but hangs up. (Which never goes over well!) Then, she acts like everything is fine and leaves the body upstairs.

I can’t believe she just left him there

The police stopped by the following day and asked the mayor what was up. He is embarrassed by his wife’s behavior, which isn’t anything new.

Now, with a body hidden in her attic and a voicemail to Jim admitting to that fact, Phoebe tries to track down the GBF. The only problem is Jim is missing.

A realtor comes to the house to do an estimate of the value. Phoebe is caught off guard and does a half-ass tour to avoid THE BODY UPSTAIRS. The whole thing stresses Phoebe out, and she throws up in the sink. Wait. This is Lifetime. Is she pregnant? Yup. She is.

Never throw up in a Lifetime Movie, you will be pregnant

Something shady is going on with Paula. She stops by the house and looks through papers in Ethan’s study. Phoebe is suspicious because Paula also told her she was pregnant before she knew. Phoebe finds an envelope full of cash.

Phoebe tries to go to the police, but he is loyal to Ethan. So, instead, Phoebe gets a fireplace shovel and walks around her house. Then, she makes a fancy dinner for when her husband returns home. She tells Ethan she is leaving him because he is up to something shady, and she deserves better. Phoebe tries to coerce a confession out of him, but he is onto her.

Lucas is alive and has been working with Ethan to cover up the murder of Jim. Jim confronted Ethan about his treatment of Phoebe and pissed him off so bad Ethan hit him with the fire shovel. (The one that Phoebe just put her fingerprints all over.) The men are planning to frame Phoebe for Jim’s murder.

Lucas pulls a gun on Phoebe, and she tells him that she is pregnant with his baby. (Good move!) The men fight over the gun, and Phoebe rushes outside and calls 911 on her broken phone. This time, she doesn’t hang up, and the mayor confesses to killing two people.

Several months later, Phoebe works for the city and promises everyone a new library.

Good for her, but her baby dad died?

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

This movie is obsessed with orange juice for some reason.

Damn, Phoebe didn’t care about Jim dying at all.

  1. This was definitely a weird one…a pillar of the community/mayor’s wife had her double crossing boyfriend living in her attic!?!?
    What the………

  2. Did she have the baby? How and why did Lucas and Ethan conspire against her? Were they doing that the entire 6 weeks he was in the attic? I’m more confused with this movie and that says A LOT about an lmn movie
