Yoga Teacher Killer is based on the true events of a deadly love triangle that led authorities on an international manhunt. When pro-cyclist Moriah Wilson (Larissa Dias) is found dead after a short-lived affair with fellow professional Colin Strickland (Kyle Schmid), all signs point to Texan yoga teacher and Strickland’s on-and-off girlfriend, Kaitlin Armstrong (Caity Lotz). After being accused of allegedly killing Wilson in a jealous rage, she vanishes into thin air. On the run, Kaitlin alters her appearance in attempts to elude the authorities as they work to track her down, leading them to places that they never expected to find her.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with Moriah Wilson’s murder. She is shot twice while getting out of the shower.
Cut to Kaitlin’s yoga class. Her approach is pretty intense but focuses on female empowerment. (The non-Nurturing vibe isn’t connecting with clients.) Kaitlin has an on-again-off-again relationship with her boyfriend, Colin. He’s short on cash as a professional bike racer waning in the sport, and sponsorships are dwindling. Kaitlin makes a lot of excuses for Colin and his poor treatment of her.

Colin focuses more on training and meets a younger rider named Moriah. He spends time flirting with her at the bar while Kaitlin spends her 35th birthday at a yoga instructor training. Kaitlin gushes about Colin and how he completes her. She brags about being Colin’s manager and him being the number one gravel cyclist in the world.

Kaitlin wants to start a family and is devastated when he breaks up with her. She worried about the business and their investment property. She accuses him of using her for money, and he leaves before things get too heated. Kaitlin throws herself against a door, and her friend worries that Colin is abusive when she sees the injuries.
The recently broken-up couple owns the home and decides to stay broken up but live together as roommates. They still share an iPad!?!?! (Which will definitely come back.) Kaitlin has access to all his social media accounts and isn’t taking no for an answer.
Kaitlin isn’t doing well… her boss at the yoga studio asks her to take some time off, and Kaitlin threatens her; she gets on dating apps, gets Botox, and leaves without PAYING!

Colin tells Moriah that he has to give Kaitlin a real chance, and his mixed signals hurt her. When he asks to be friends, Moriah tells him that is wouldn’t look good to Kaitlin.
To rekindle their relationship, Kaitlin and Colin go to the shooting range. (A CLASSIC romantic place.) They make a big show in front of being back together at races, too. (Moriah watches on in disbelief.)

At a party, Kaitlin learns about Moriah Wilson and becomes instantly jealous. She even shouts, “I COULD JUST KILL HER!!!!” Kaitlin stays up late into the night and reads text messages from Moriah on the iPad. Kaitlin confronts Colin and starts a fight, but he tries to reassure her and says it is all in the past. Kaitlin can’t stop obsessing and goes through his phone. Then, she calls Moriah and threatens her.

Moriah tells Colin about the threatening call she received from Kaitlin and wants to step away from their friendship. At the same time, they are meeting. Kaitlin looks up their location on social media, and sees that they are at the same place.

Kaitlin finds Moriah’s house and kills her in cold blood. She attempts to make it look like a robbery by stealing Moriah’s bike and throwing it in the woods. She also ransacks their house to make them like the victims of a robbery. (Which is stupid.)
The police bring Colin in for questioning; he is the last person to see Moriah alive. Kaitlin quickly becomes a suspect because a warrant is out for her arrest for stealing Botox. Kaitlin’s line of question is cut short because the name on the report is spelled with a C, not a K.

It doesn’t really matter because the police ID Kaitlin’s car at the scene, and she doesn’t have an alibi. The police link the gun casings to Kaitlin’s gun, and they attempt to arrest her, but she is gone to New York.
In New York, Kaitlin tells her sister she is protecting Colin and appears battered. Kaitlin only stays briefly and takes off for Costa Rica for a yoga retreat. She changes up her hair and renames herself Ari. After looking herself up online and seeing she is wanted, Kaitlin decides to get a nose job so no one will recognize her.

The police get a hit on Kaitlin’s sister’s passport and put up a listing online for a yoga teacher who speaks English. The local police storm into the yoga class and arrest Kaitlin after she answers the ad. Kaitlin pees her pants.
Kaitlin is held in jail with a 3.5 Million Dollar bond. She doesn’t take the charges seriously and makes fun of her prison uniform. Kaitlin even attempts to escape during a medical visit, but the police apprehend her.

The trial lawyer argues that Kaitlin was just going on a yoga trip to get away from an abusive boyfriend. That argument is no match for Moriah’s screams caught on a ring camera. The judge sentences Kaitlin to 90 years in prison. She is up for parole in 2052 and teaches yoga to her cellmates.
