Synopsis (via Lifetime)

After the death of the neighborhood busybody, young couple Carlee and Alex jump at the chance to buy her now notorious Maple Street house at a discounted rate. Soon, however, strange occurrences lead Carlee to suspect that there was more to old woman’s death than meets the eye, and that what she and her husband don’t know might have put them in a very dangerous position. Stars Frances Leigh, and Thomas Cadrot (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

MAPLE STREET AGAIN?!?!? This is the last one, thank God! I hope this series wasn’t popular because I just can’t. (I will, but I don’t want to!)

Nosey Maple Street Neighbor, Mrs Clarmont, makes some tea. (This is fitting since she spills tea on everyone on the street.) She calmly balances books and fondles a key around her neck. Then she hears a noise, grabs a kitchen knife, and is strangled to death. (Finally, some excitement around here!)

At least they got the kitchen knife right!

No one is sad at her funeral, and they speculate how much the house will sell for. Carlee (A store owner) and Alex (A mortgage broker) are the new couple moving onto Maple Street, and they are sort of creeped out by the death in the home. The neighborhood ladies watch from the curb while drinking coffee.

Teenagers Britney and Archer are still getting it on. They think the way Mrs. Clarmont died is suspicious. They start seeing something lurking around the old lady’s house. (Remember when Britney found out she was someone else’s child? We’ve totally moved past that.)

We barely get to know these characters before they are arguing and set up a bad guys.

Carlee meets the neighbors over wine and assures the ladies in the neighborhood she is unbothered by the death. She is so unbothered that they are sleeping in Mrs. Clarmont’s bed and using her furniture. Alex thinks the guys on the street are assholes for talking shit about a dead old lady. (He is RIGHT!!!!) Alex’s behavior pisses Carlee off, and she tells Alex he was rude!

Detective Vaughn is back! She is doing her due diligence about Mrs. Clarmont’s death; the only problem is everyone has a reason to want her dead. The men of Maple Street (Who should start a sexy calendar, TBH!) buried something under Mrs Clarmont’s house and need to get it back.

Carlee hears something at night and looks around. Alex is renovating the house, which makes the whole first floor creepy. (Well, not really, because the movie is not shot well or suspenseful.) A masked attacker enters the house, but that is nothing in comparison to Alex LYING ABOUT BEING UNEMPLOYED! HOW WILL THEY PAY THE MORGAGE!!???!???!??!?!

Detective Vaughn is attacked next, and the masked figure steals her police files from the trunk of her car. Roger (Who?!?!?!) is arrested for assaulting an officer. He was being blackmailed by Mrs. Clarmont’s husband, who was a private detective, and helping his wife with all the hot gossip. His fingerprints are also found at the murder scene.

There are more kooky scenes with Detective Vaughn snooping around; the only thing missing is a big Latoya Jackson magnifying glass.

If Detective Vaughn doesn’t solve this case, Ali Liebert will! (How the producers could afford her for all three movies, I will never know!)

Did she give them a three for one discounted rate?

Alex has a bunch of money in a safety deposit box that he removes and hides in a cooler. (So that is shady!) He keeps it from his wife and tries to sneak the cash out of the house while she is sleeping, but he is randomly shot and killed in cold blood.

Oh wait, Detective Vaughn explains everything in one scene. Cool, cool. What us that saying? Tell, not show? Okay, cool. Love that. Alex worked at the bank and killed Mrs. Clairemont for blackmail money he found in the bank safe. His tampering was why he got fired. Who killed Alex? It is still a mystery. (Not really!)

I like this actress, and I hope she is featured in better Lifetime Movies!

Carlee is shocked at the murder and tells Detective Vaughn that she knows nothing more except that Carlee does know more. She orchestrated the whole thing and killed her husband. They struggle over the gun but are interrupted by a neighbor with a goodbye cake. Detective Vaughn uses the cake plate to knock Carlee out.

The ladies of Maple Street thank Detective Vaughn with a cake to thank her for solving all the crimes on their street. THE END AND GOOD RIDDANCE.

See You NEVER!

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

The underscoring of dorky music in this whole series killed me.

This series has to be a Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel reject, right? There is no other explanation.

Did this movie unapologetically state that THEY ARE IN CANADA?!?!?

  1. Thank goodness for you cuz I just couldn’t watch this while movie. It was awful. But I turned it off completely when their were 2, not 1, black criminals. That’s gotta be a record even for LMN. I’ve noticed there haven’t been as many movies with black criminals and/victims. But this movie made up for that. Im so glad you watch these movies all the way thru(although I do feel sorry for u. I hope ur playing drinking games while watching?!) That way I dont have to. You do a great service for all us lmn movie watchers. Thx
