Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with generic, upbeat Christmas music, and we meet our protagonist, Wilde Williams. (The wildest thing about him is that he sleeps with undereye masks all night.) The poor thing is going through a breakup, and chugs wine first thing when he wakes up and starts his beauty regimen. Wilde is making significant changes. He is selling his company and getting out of town. (This need to get out of town is intensified by a silly argument with his ex, Sean, where a Christmas wreath is thrown like a ninja star.)

We also meet Oliver, who is very British. He is a drab and depressed divorce attorney at his father’s firm. His co-worker, George, tells Oliver that he needs a change before gifting Oliver a book about being single and gay in LA. (by hunk writer Julius Nasser.) George tells Oliver that he deserves to put himself first before his clients.

Kyle Richards leaves the Halloween franchise to play Wilde’s mother in this movie. She appears mostly on facetimes and says embarrassing PLAG mom appropriating gay culture things like, “Yas, Gurl!”
Oliver stands to inherit his father’s business. He also owns a home in Brilfax that he rents out as an Air BnB. Wilde sends a request to rent his Christmas cottage at the last minute. After a video chat with Wilde, Oliver decides to swap houses with Wilde. He lets his cousin, Henry, know about the guest.

Wilde hits the bar immediately when he lands in Brilfax. He gets totally wrecked. He cries over his failed love life and current life situation. Then he calls his mom. After a bath and, unfortunately, not in a towel, Wilde runs into Oliver’s cousin Henry, who needs to stay at the house due to a winter storm. They start a fire together, and Wilde tells Henry to leave him alone.
Oliver makes himself at home in LA and ends up at a book signing for the hunk author. They have flirty vibes, but I’m not into Julius Nasser’s v-neck suit jacket combo. Oliver signs up for the bookstore toy drive, hoping to see the author again. Julius wants to see Oliver, too, and tries to bribe the bookstore owner into giving him Oliver’s number.

I’m not sure why, and I’m not mad at it. Wilde gets locked out of the house during the VERY CGI winter storm in his underwear. Henry likes what he sees and lets Wilde in. They talk while warming up over breakfast. Wilde is turned off when he learns that Henry is an actor, like his ex.
The boys go on Christmas dates and have some holiday romance. Julius and Oliver roast chestnuts, and Wilde and Henry go to a pub and have a slow dance.
Oliver and Julius get into an argument when Julius learns that Oliver is a divorce attorney. Henry and Wilde get into an argument about logistics in long-distance dating.

Everything works out, and we get lots of gay kissing. (We love that!) The couples call one another and introduce each other to their prospective boyfriends. They agree to all go to LA for the ultimate New Year’s Eve orgy, I mean party!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
Taylor Frey wrote and starred in this one, good for him!
I wasn’t a fan of The Holiday, but since it was gay, I liked this one better.
