Recap/Wine Thoughts
Beth Broderick checks off the Christmas checklist while decorating her home perfectly. She is Type A and keeps busy keeping the home. She joins a community Christmas committee and doesn’t fit in immediately.
Caroline Rhea is the group leader; everyone wears Christmas sweaters and goes with the flow. The budget doesn’t matter to her; she keeps receipts in a shoebox. Beth Broderick is surprised by the complete chaos, and Caroline Rhea is put off by Beth Broderick’s judgment.
Shane works in theater and is Beth Broderick’s son. She worries that her son is lonely and wants to make helping her son find love her next project. Caroline Rhea’s daughter, Lauren, is also single and signs her daughter up for a matchmaker service. Caroline Rhea wants to set Lauren up with a guy she finds. Lauren agrees only if her mother stops meddling.
Caroline Rhea and Beth Boderick work in a soup kitchen and are very competitive. They make Turkey dinner sandwiches. They shade one another the whole time, and it is hilarious but very dumb.
Lauren and Shane meet for coffee, and it doesn’t start well. Shane overhears Lauren talking to a friend. She complains about going on a blind date. Her mother set her up for it. Then they hit it up, talking about their mothers. Shane also tells Lauren he will sell his theater business, but he is super stressed. Lauren and Shane pretend to date for the holidays to keep their mothers off their backs.
Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea cannot get along while working on the committee. They continue to get into spats that dissolve into shade. Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea are working at the Christmas festival. They are horrified to learn that they set Shane and Lauren up. They decide to work together to sabotage the relationship.
The sabotages consist of a rat gift and making Lauren uncomfortable on stage. They don’t really work and only endear Lauren and Shane to one another.
I’m not sure why, but Beth Broderick climbs up a door and flies through the top window. Caroline Rhea is impressed. They start to work together to solve problems.
Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea double down and start acting like they love one another to freak out their kids. They do Christmas karaoke because Lauren hates singing, but Shane and Lauren have fun. Shane even mentions that Lauren has convinced him to not sell the theater because it is something he loves.
Shane admits to his brother, Aiden, that he is faking his relationship with Lauren. However, he is starting to catch his feelings. The brother tells Shane to go for it and makes a small, kind gesture. Shane takes his advice and brings cookies to Lauren at her work and is impressed by the architectural designs. (Since Aiden is the gay son, he tells his mom about the fake relationship immediately.) Lauren and Shane decide to start to date for real.
Beth Broderick tells Caroline Rhea about her son faking the relationship, and they think Lauren doesn’t know. They try to warn Lauren that she is being played, but it makes things worse. Lauren freaks out and ends things with Shane because of all the drama. Then Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea start going at it, and Beth Broderick quits the committee.
Mark doesn’t like his wife hanging out around the house moping. He tells Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea to make up and help their kids start speaking to one another again. They are happy to get another chance to meddle.
Caroline Rhea shows up at Lauren’s work and apologizes for meddling. She explains that she only wants her daughter to be happy. Then she drags Lauren to the theater, where Beth Broderick apologizes to her son.
Lauren and Shane decide to give things another go. They kiss and it is cute. They all spend
Note/Stray Thoughts
The performances were great in this one, but the film making was truly lacking. It has bad sound, bad editing, and a bad soundtrack.
Gay couple alert! Aiden and Jeff, Shane’s brother.
