Sparks fly between a tech executive and her charming childhood crush as they work together to revive her grandmother’s festive holiday traditions.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie shows the title in the first few seconds, so it is an automatic pour it up.
Zoe comes home for the holidays because it is the first one since her grandmother’s husband passed away. Granny, AKA Loretta Devine, is a party animal and redecorated for the millennial aesthetic. Loretta Devine provides dating advice for their neighbors, helps empty nesters get their groove back, and helps babysit for the gays across the hall. Loretta Devine has moved on and wants to know about Zoe’s breakup with her five-year boyfriend, Knox.
Loretta Devine goes out to work the night lounge singing, and the next morning, she is off to a mimosa brunch with the girls. Zoe tags along with her grandmother and runs into an old friend named Jace. He owns the brunch spot and is a successful restaurateur. Jace used to live on Gram’s floor, and he is interested in Zoe’s plan to revive the holiday festivities.
Some side stories aren’t that interesting. Honestly, when Loretta Devine isn’t in the movie, I don’t even care! The gays get a new kid after his mom died, so I guess it is one gay and a bi.
Loretta Devine goes to an EDM party, and the movie decides to stick with Zoe planning the Christmas party. She has a rival, Mr. Wade, who isn’t a fan of holiday decorations and is the building’s super. Loretta Devine gets him good by putting glitter in his laundry. Then she tries to play cupid with Zoe and Jace.
Zoe overhears Wade talking on the phone, and he is being fired, which means he will be moving out of the apartment complex. The world is changing! Oh nooooooo!
The party is back on, and all the neighbors join in honor of Zoe’s grandad’s holiday tradition. Everyone is happy the end!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
This movie should just be Loretta Devine
