For Nell Duke (Fonseca), nothing is worse than being single at Christmastime because everywhere she looks, couples are kissing under the mistletoe. After her family cancels holiday plans at the last minute, Nell decides to spend the week of Christmas having fun on her own! When she crosses paths with her neighbor Cooper (Lissing), a financial analyst who prides himself on being happily unattached, he notices Nell struggling with being alone and decides to share tips on how to keep the holidays festive. Cooper inspires Nell to challenge her insecurities and find happiness in being on her own. In turn, Nell helps Cooper realize he’s missing out on real connection. In the fun partnership that forms, the friendly singles’ Christmas together starts to feel like something more. Their special connection falls apart when Nell finds out Cooper only offered to help because he felt sorry Nell had to spend the holidays alone. To make Christmas truly magical this year, Cooper must show real growth of character while Nell finds her own strength in being single during the holidays. Inspired by the song “Single on the 25th” by Lauren Spencer Smith. Starring Lyndsy Fonseca and Daniel Lissing.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with Lauren Spencer Smith’s song “Single on the 25th” as Nell walks sadly through town. The Christmas couples are EVERYWHERE! Nell and her BFF Julia complain that Christmas is co-opted by romance and ultimately decide it is for everyone!
Cooper, a businessman in Nell’s building, helps them with the door as they bring a Christmas Tree in, and instead of a meet-cute, they make awkward small talk.
In a turn of events, Nell’s sister can’t make it to Chicago for Christmas, and Julie has other plans; she is pregnant! Nell is looking to spend Christmas alone. She orders Chinese, but gets locked out of her apartment. The only person home still is Cooper.
Nell has no choice but to share her Chinese with Cooper and wait for the super. They talk about holiday plans, and Nell is upset that she planned the perfect Christmas in Chicago. Cooper tells her to stay in town and just enjoy her holiday solo. Nell is inspired.
Copper, a finance bro, lands a big account and has to stay in town too!
BAKING MONTAGE.
Cooper ends up joining Nell on her holiday plans to teach her how to do things alone. She takes a horse-drawn carriage, does a Christmas photoshoot, but is bummed she looks so alone in the pictures. (The photographer makes Cooper and Nell take a photo together.) They even do a solo supper club, at tables right across from one another.
Lauren Spencer Smith sings the titular song at a Christmas party, and Nell doesn’t want to dance on the dance floor alone. Cooper dances with her, and she asks him how a “handsome” man like him is single.
Julie calls her friend to check in and suggests that Nell go to a single support group. It is a lot. Do single people really feel this way? Whenever I’m single, I am straight chillin!!!!!!!! Julie leaves the support group and buys herself a ring for 1995. (Is that the year or the price?!?!)
Nell gets a gift for Cooper for Christmas, and it is a CD of Poka music, and he is touched. Nell gets the proofs of her Christmas cards, and there is one with her and Cooper together and one by herself. Which will she send?!?!
I’m not sure how there is still time, but we get a SECOND baking montage, with a flour fight. Nell helps Cooper prep for his family Christmas party. Nell tells Cooper she loves family parties. Nell shows him the tricks of navigating his nosey aunts and uncles. Everyone asks him why he is still single.
Cooper and Nell realize they want to be alone with each other rather than together with anyone else. They find each other at dinner alone. Copper gives her a fortune from his cookie and fills her out for her. (HOW did he get the message in there?) They kiss.
The end!

Daniel is so old school Hallmark. He is very natural in these.
