Taylor disguises as Santa at a resort to fund her daughter’s ski lessons. Working with the charming manager Matthew, she finds holiday cheer and a chance at love amidst challenges.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Taylor, a single mother of two, is fired from her Christmas cookie-baking job right around the holidays. She is behind on her rent, can’t pay for her daughter Zoey’s ski school.
Taylor sells her old records, and she used to be a singer in a band called Screaming Kittens. A fan in the record store kind of chases her down and invites her to coffee. She declines because. STALKER!
Taylor learns that employees get 50% off tuition and applies for a job. The ski resort is run by the handsome stalker, Matthew’s Dad. Matthew hasn’t worked a day in his life and has to pay off some debts by taking on the role of the ski resort’s new general manager.
Taylor overhears that they are in need of a Santa Claus for the holiday season and asks her gay former bandmates to make her into Santa Claus. They bust out the fat suit and beard, and Taylor is on her way.
Tia Mowry oversees hiring and is upset that she was passed over for the role of General Manager and has to train Matthew. Taylor lands the job and is assigned a chief elf named Jimmy.
Taylor has to go to the locker room and find Matthew changing after a steam in the sauna. Matthew feels very comfortable talking to Taylor, and she tells him that it is because of the Santa of it all.
After working and attending a Christmas tree lighting, Taylor is hit on by the building’s super, who apparently is into Santa.
Sun Peaks Ski Resort Santa’s reviews are in, and they aren’t good. Taylor isn’t great with the spoiled kids. She tells the kids no when they ask for expensive gifts. There is also a stuffing incident with the Santa Suit. To make matters worse, Matthew keeps confiding in Santa and telling him how into Taylor he is.
After curing a little girl of her stutter, Santa is a hit! It goes viral, and a waiting list to book rooms at the hotel.
Taylor finally takes Matthew up on that hot chocolate. They stroll around talking about his dead mother. ROMANTIC. Later, Matthew plays in a band, and this actor seems like he’d have a band as a side project. Taylor runs off, embarrassed when Matthew calls her up onstage. She leaves her distinctive Chapstick behind.
Meanwhile, Tia Mowry tries to find out more about the Santa she hired. She tries to reverse image search, but it is all Santa pics. Eventually, she figures out it is Taylor.
Both Taylor and Santa are invited to the Ski Lounge holiday party, and she has to do double duty, changing in the bathroom with her team of gays. Matthew finds them in the bathroom and thinks Santa is gay. Well, that is, until Tia Mowry publicly exposes her. Taylor is trying to figure out what to say when her daughter is reported to have had an accident.
Taylor pulls off her Santa face and tries to explain before going off in the ambulance with her daughter. The gig is up!
Taylor shows up at the ski resort and apologizes publicly. Then she performs a rocking version of “Run, Run, Rudolph” with Matthew.
Side Note/Stray Observations
HOW was Taylor cashing Hugh Mann’s checks?
Tia Mowry playing the villain? No. Give her the lead in everything.
Did Alexandra Breckenridge do her own singing?
It wasn’t actually Breckenridge singing during the performance. “It’s not my voice,” the Virgin River star confirmed to Us Weekly. “I almost sang it, but then that scared me more than playing Santa Claus.
