When a synagogue’s pipes burst, a church offers space. As choir directors prepare a joint Christmas-Hanukkah service, old rivals Nikki and Jake must overcome their competition to unite their communities through song.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Nikki Roberts and Jake Cohan are high school rivals/singers. They try to outperform one another at the school talent show, but Nikki’s voice cracks, and everyone laughs her off stage. Jake feels bad for reliving her embarrassment.
Flash forward to adult Nikki, who lives in her hometown and conducts the local choir in her church. Jake lives in the city, plays guitar, and works at a guitar shop. He is also in a rock band!
Jake works on a song, but keeps writing “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel.” His hometown synagogue bursts a pipe. He gets a call to come home and take care of his grandmother. His mother and grandmother dote over him and throw around Jewish phrases like they are going out of style.
Nikki and Jake have to coach competing choruses to raise money for the repairs to the synagogue.
The movie follows competitive flirting between Nikki and Jake.
Nikki eventually goes to a Hanukkah dinner, and the movie offers a how-to-survive-the-holiday guide that should have been at the beginning.
The Christmas concert happens, and Nikki is forced to sing. Good lord, the autotune. Jake misses the concert because his band has a big audition, but he decides to rush to the chorus concert instead of staying in the city.
Jake makes it in time to join Nikki onstage, and they sing a song about glowing. Good for them!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
