Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Sarah is a children’s book author who returns to her hometown, where she reconnects with her family and Travis, her teenage crush. She soon discovers that a long-held family legend might actually be true.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Sarah Grace is a notable author heading to New Britain, Maine, as part of a book signing contest. Sarah is upset because it is her hometown and things ended badly when she left.

Through a flashback, we see young Sarah with crazy hair. She is in love with the neighbor boy named Travis. (They are grown-up actors playing high school/college students. I’m feeling a lot of secondhand embarrassment.) Sarah helps her Grandmother, Marilu Henner, make Kismit cookies. (Where you cook with your heart, not your eyes.) When the cookies are ready, you put one under your pillow, and it helps you find love or something. (Can I get one of those?) Sarah can’t have one either because her Grandmother wants her to experience crushes. Sarah sneaks one under her pillow, and she tells Travis that he is her one true love. When she runs to tell him he is getting married?!?! Sarah cries and tears up the recipe.

In the present day, Sarah tells her agent that she will go back, but she hasn’t seen or heard from Travis since.

Once she is home, it doesn’t take long to run into Travis dressed as Santa and meet his daughter. They quickly spend time together doing Christmas things, and Sarah promises to donate books for a town book drive.

Sarah also spends time with her Grandma and her friends, who all own shops in town. Everyone is dressed in old fashion clothing from the 1900s, and I’m not sure why.

A scavenger hunt happens, and the prize is fudge. (You would not catch me running around just for fudge, gross!)

People around the town ask Sarah to make Kismet cookies again because they worked so well. Sarah doesn’t have the heart to tell them that she destroyed the recipe.

Even though the Kismet cookies are out of play, they seem to be bringing Sarah and Travis together. They play Christmas Trivia, shop for presents, and chop down a Christmas tree. All while falling in LOVE! (Travis’s wife is dead? Missing? Has Run Off?)

Sarah makes a wish on a wall, and it opens up to show the tapped-up Kismit cookie recipe. Sarah hands them out to people in the town, and they are so thankful.

Benny, Sarah’s agent, comes to town and is thrilled with the new book draft. He is excited to meet Travis and Grandma Mia, and also try a Kismit cookie.

Speaking of Grandma Mia, she is selling the house because she is going to teach English abroad. Sarah can’t bear the thought of her Grandma selling her house and considers buying the house to stay in the town that inspires her and to be with Travis, obviously.

The Kismet cookies work their magic and confirm that Travis and Sarah are meant to be together. They dream of one another and know what to do. They kiss, and that’s the end!

Side Note

I’m dumb; what does Kismit mean? Haha!

So many movie references in this movie.
