Four friends Karla Dodds (Denise Richards), Rebel Carron-Whitman (NeNe Leakes), Joli Symons (Kym Johnson Herjavec) and Sharell Bouvier (Melyssa Ford) head for a much-needed spa retreat weekend away from their husbands, children and busy schedules when suddenly they find themselves downed in a plane crash. With no knowledge of basic survival, the housewives must use their wits and whatever is in their designer bags to try to survive in the rugged wilds. When they realize they are not alone, even frenemies must align to outwit their hunters.
Recap/Wine Thoughts.
Denise Richards wakes from a plane crash looking fabulous with not a scratch on her, except for a thorn in her palm. Her friend Sharell. (Melyssa Ford.) also survives. Denise Richards looks around and says, “I think the plane crashed?”
Two hours earlier, Denise Richards, Nene Leaks, Sharell, and Joli prepare for a girls’ trip in a private jet hangar. They flirt with the captain. Sharell just got her yoga teaching certificate, and Denise Richards’ hot husband pays for their flight. It is pretty standard fare.
Back to the crash site, because Lifetime doesn’t have that plane crash budget, we learn that Nene didn’t survive the crash. The housewives’ first instinct is to take the rings off her. Then, they worry about things like first aid and cell reception. They argue about suing the jetliner and wonder where the captain went to.
Cut to the HUSBAND! Denise Richard’s husband, Mark Ghanimé, has gathered the men for the best reality show viewing experience. Their wives are stranded in a forest for their amusement. The husbands think Mark is crazy and are not into it. Mark pulls a gun on them and forces them to play along. He has blackmailed everyone and promises he is doing what is best since the housewives are using them for their money.
Denise Richards, Sharell, and Joli don’t remember anything from the flight. But Denise Richard has a PLAN! Split up!
Denise Richard finds a parachute and a baby black bear.
Sharell gets a first-making montage.
Joli looks through the luggage. (And the most useful thing she decifers is a shard of glass.)
The ladies think Denise Richards is in a healthy marriage with he husband, Mark, but we see through flashbacks that he is abusive and manipulative.
Back in his bunker, Mark is disappointed that the housewives mostly sit around and talk about how good the berries’ survival diet will be for their figures.
The ladies become obsessed with Nene’s dead body and decide to move it to dig her a proper grave and plan a memorial. Then we see a memorial for a character with less screen time than I did in my Lifetime movie.
Denise Richards opens up about her abusive relationship and fears that she will leave Mark. He is controlling and doesn’t want to let her go. The other wives are sympathetic and tell Denise Richards that she deserves better. It is very surface-level.
A hunter shoots bow and arrows through the trees and hits Sharell in her designer purse. The husbands watch on in horror/delight.
The other husbands band together and try to take Mark out to save their wives. (Except for NeNe’s husband because she is already dead.) They drug Mark’s beer, but he opts for whiskey instead. The other husbands are dupped.
Sharell and Denise Richards find a camera in the trees and knock it out to get a better look. When Denise Richards realizes the cameras belong to her husband’s company, she considers that the whole thing could be an elaborate production by Mark.
Joli sends smoke signals back at camp. She is still pretty upset that NeNe Leaks isn’t in this movie more, as we all are!!! She randomly kills a squirrel and eats it.
Meanwhile, shots ring out through the woods, and the Capitan is out to kill Denise Richards and Sharell. They hit him dead on in the face with a rock. Then they unlock his phone and see the pilot has been texting with Mark. They send him a text that says, “Mission accomplished.” Then they find the getaway driver and steal his car and head to Mark’s country house.
Denise Richards and Sharell sneak into the house gun, save, and find NeNe’s husband locked in. He tells them no one is involved. They find Sharell’s husband and realize he has been in on it for his political career and shoot him. Joel’s husband is cool tho.
Denise Richards finds Mark and pulls a gun on him. She says he made her feel like she needed him, but she has realized that she is stronger than she thought by fighting for her survival. The police pull up and put his hands up. (But not before taking his wedding ring off and dropping it on the floor.)
The housewives drink whiskey by the pool and toast to Nene. Denise Richards apologizes for her husband’s behavior and shares she is moving to Miami!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
While Denise Richard’s infamous abusive relationship with Charlie Sheen is well documented, and the actress seems to be channeling some of those emotions here, the abusive storyline could have been handled with more care.
This campy movie is a treat for Bravo Housewives fans, but Lifetime Movie regulars might be left scratching their heads.
