Recap/Wine Thoughts
Minka Kelly is in a movie, finally, where she belongs. A low-budget TV romcom.
Here she plays a champagne expert/businesswoman, Sydney. She is sent on a trip to France to land a deal with the local champagne business. Sydney will have to leave her wunderlust sister alone for Christmas, since their mother is dead. The sister makes Sydney pinky-promise to take one night off her trip for FUN and ADVENTURE!
With the Eiffel Tower outside her hotel room, Sydney works on her laptop. Then she gets a text reminding her to go out and see Paris. Sydney visits a small bookstore and mistakes a man for an employee. His name is Henri. He presumptuously invites her to do HIS version of Paris, so she can skip the tourist traps like the Eiffel Tower! Sydney doesn’t want to get murdered and turns him down.
In French, he begs her to let him show her the most romantic night in the city, and she agrees to go. They eat crapes, macaroons, and mulled wine at the Christmas market. Henri also has a dead mother, so they bond over that.
They get stuck on a Ferris wheel, and he talks about his favorite book. Then they walk the streets of Paris and make out, because in Paris, they kiss in the street. They spend the night together, and Sydney rushes to her morning meeting after oversleeping.
The meeting goes unexpectedly, and all the prospective buyers make their pitches together. Then Henri shows up at the meeting; he is the owner’s son. Henri hates Sydney’s company, The Roth Group.
The owner can’t decide on the proposals and invites everyone to the Château as his guests. They do a champagne tasting and cheese tasting, which is bad for Sydney, who is lactose intolerant.
This adorable doggie shows up halfway through the movie. He is now the star of the movie.
