Synopsis (via Netflix)
A Chicago baker (V.Hudgens) is competing in a Christmas baking competition in Belgravia. There she bumps into the prince’s fiancee. They look alike and switch for 2 days. “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
Thoughts
Stacey is a no-nonsense Chicago baker, gets invited to Belgravia to compete in a baking competition with her friend, Kevin and daughter. She is getting over a break up but her boyfriend, Paul has already moved on. So to make him jealous she agrees to go to Belgravia. (Always motivated by a MAN.)
Twin magic happens when Stacey see a man in Chicago and then his twin in Belgravia. The mystery man tells her “Life is what happens when your busy making plans.” Stacey is like why is everyone telling me that?!?!
Stacey runs into Lady Margaret who looks exactly like her… but they don’t even talk about it. Lady Margaret invites Stacey to a dress fitting, she is getting married to the prince Edward. They then talk over tea and Lady Margaret tells Stacey she wants to switch places for two days so she can learn more about the people who she will be ruling over.
We get a getting to know you montage, where Stacey shows Lady M her phone and Lady M shows her the royal family heritage and how to walk like a princess. They swap outfits and get matching hair styles.
Stacey passes her first test of tricking Prince Edward, which isn’t hard because they are getting arranged married and don’t know each other that well. Lady M has a harder time, because Kevin knows Stacey very well. Lady M goes to bed early. Stacey isn’t off the hook either because Prince Edward decides to stay and spend time with his fiance. Stacey keeps lying about the customs in Montanero. (Her home country) to cover her tracks. Prince Edward is intrigued with Stacey and her quirkiness
Olivia is not convinced that Lady M is Stacey. Lady M can’t cook, messes up the secret handshake, and gets a call… from herself. Olivia figures it out and tells Lady M to call Stacey. Lady M seems unfazed by Edward being staying in town and conveniently forgot about an gala event that Stacey will now have to attend. Seems like Lady M would rather just be spontaneous and send time with Kevin and Olivia doing Christmas things. (They make decorations, Christmas sing along, snowball fight and take photos with Santa.)
At the gala, Prince Edward apologizes to Stacey for being misogynistic. They are dressed to the nines. The king and queen insist on Stacey playing the piano because the heard she is a gifted performer. Prince Edward joins her when she freezes up and they play “Carol of the Bells” where she plays a few chords and he does most of the work. Everyone loves the future princess now. They dance in the gazebo and it is very pretty.
Lady M isn’t dancing but she has the hots for Kevin, I would too! He gets a shirtless scene that would be too racy for Hallmark.
Once realizing that the kids at the orphanage doesn’t have any gifts for Christmas, Stacey and Prince Edward head to town to buy them and then later wrap them and bake cookies. They play twister and are having a great time, but are dangerously close to running into Lady M. The old man twin guy gets Lady M out before Prince Edward and his people see and piece everything together.
It is the final night of the switch and Stacey has fallen for Prince Edward. They keeps kissing! (Even without mistletoe) and Lady M kisses Kevin. (They watch A Christmas Prince, haha okay Netflix!) These poor men have fallen in love with different women who look the same. It is kind of messed up!
Stacey and Lady M recap what happened and they realize that they are in love with men from their lives. They decide to do nothing about it and go back to their lives.
A RUDE palace worker snaps pictures of them together and falls off of a balcony. The queen shuts him down and takes the photographs and realizes that Stacey is a baker from the competition. The queen sends Prince Edward and Lady M to the baking competition to represent the royals.
The baking competition happens, it wouldn’t be complete without sabotage from a jealous competitor. (She cuts the power on the mixer.) Stacey and Kevin win, they accept the award from Prince Edward and Lady M. Everyone sees that they look alike and Kevin is FREAKING OUT! He finally realizes that Lady M is saying she is love with him and Prince Edward and Stacy are in love too.
Stacy and Prince Edward get engaged and then married! Lady M & Kevin are there too, she catches the bouquet. Christmas wishes really do come true.
