Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Bliss is falling head over heels in love with handsome Nathan, who is in a plural marriage with his two other wives Lauren and Jenna. But Bliss’ romance is threatened when Carl, the brother of Nathan’s ex, accuses the family of harming his apparently missing sister. Carl is soon reassured by Nathan that his ex is well, as she left him a voicemail recently. But when Bliss later discovers the belongings of the ex-wife, she becomes suspicious. Where is she now and why would she really have left? Tension builds in the house and it’s not long before someone in her new family turns on her – and they’d do anything to make her disappear. Emma Johnson, Giles Panton, Alana Hawley Purvis, Teagan Vincze, and Benjamin J. Stevens (2025).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with a woman hiding in a closet, covering her mouth, and trying to be quiet. (Why do people do this in movies! Like, just be quiet. Is covering your mouth REALLY going to help?)

Hands OFF, sir!

We cut to a diner, where we meet a waitress named Bliss who is sassy to rude customers, and I’m like, you go, girl! The customer isn’t always right, but this guy thinks he is. He assaults Bliss as she leaves work for the night.

Seriously, great voice on this one.

A man with a sexy ass voice stops the customer and kicks him in the shin. Bliss is turned on, or maybe it is just me. His name is Nathan, and he owns a farm nearby. Bliss tells him that she likes older guys with manners and standards. Even if she had time to date, Bliss has to work to make ends meet. Nathan leaves his name on a napkin and asks her to find the time.

The “I don’t believe in monogamy” face.

They date for a few weeks, and before getting more serious, Nathan decides to come clean. He first tells Bliss that he has a teenage son named Matthew. Next, he says he is still living with Matthew’s mother. When Bliss gets upset that he gave her the impression that he was single, Nathan explains he is, but just not monogamous. He has multiple partners, and he is NOT Mormon. Bliss reluctantly agrees to go to his farm and check it out. (Which goes against her no BS that was JUST established in the scene before.)

Don’t tell these ladies about your allergies

On the farm, Bliss is impressed by how big and stunning the home/farm is. (Three incomes will do that!) Nathan introduces Lauren and Jenna, his wives. They are all horny for Nathan. Lauren is the least welcoming to Bliss because she is the first wife. Lauren tells Bliss that she is just a down-on-her-luck waitress trying to cash in her lottery ticket. Jenna takes Bliss to do some baking, and Bliss stupidly shares she is DEATHLY allergic to strawberries.

Carl is all like, “Where is my sister?”

A guy named Carl visits Bliss at the diner and tells her about his sister Anna, Nathan’s third wife, who disappeared. The police investigated and found nothing out of place. Carl asks Bliss to help him look into Nathan. When she refuses, he blackmails her, using her past against her. Bliss changed her name from Jen after she left her town in a hurry, looking to start over.

Chill out, Katniss!

Bliss goes back to the farm, and Nathan gives her a tour of the grounds. Bliss runs into Matthew, the son, who has been reading too much Hunger Games. Matt tells Bliss that he doesn’t want another mom after what happened with Anna. Bliss talks to Nathan about it, and he says he did date Anna, but things didn’t work out. Nathan sends Matt to his room without dinner.

He had one scene, but he had a whole backstory in his mind.

The diner’s owner fires Bliss and becomes overly emotional. (It reminds me of that scene in Friends when Phoebe is the waitress.) With no job, Bliss is forced to move in with Nathan and his NOT Sister Wives. Lauren isn’t welcoming and is quick to tell Bliss the house rules. (She is also annoyed that they can’t have Strawberries anymore. Haha, what a bitch!)

All of these rules Bliss will be sure to break by the end of the movie.

She kind of looked photoshopped in, anyway.

Jenna is nicer and gives more insight into Anna and Nathan’s relationship. Anna had dreams and wanted kids. Since Jenna and Lauren can’t produce children, it seemed up to Anna, but she was cut out of the picture. Literally!

Nathan tries to explain the whole Anna thing again and says she was a jealous third wife who simply left. Nathan promises not to keep anything from Bliss. Bliss tells Carl everything, and he confirms a sentimental locket that Bliss found Anna would NEVER leave without.

Lauren catches Bliss snooping, and we are back to the opening scene. Bliss tells Lauren and Nathan about Carl blackmailing her. She comes clean and tells them her name is Jen, and she has a history of stealing. Nathan calls Carl and tells him what happened to Anna. Nathan shows Carl a voicemail that Anna left, saying she is okay.

Nathan grossly asks Bliss to wear some of Anna’s old clothes because “woman should dress like a woman.” Then he tells Bliss to stop looking for a job because her job is having a baby. When Bliss pushes back, he tells her to make a better decision. Bliss looks through Anna’s things and finds an old jewelry box. In the locket, there is an address on a piece of paper behind the photo inside.

Dummy, that looks like a strawberry smoothie

Bliss talks to Jenna about having a baby, and Jenna promises to help take care of the baby so Bliss can work and have a baby. Lauren overhears the conversation and puts strawberries in Bliss’ smoothie. Then Lauren sticks her with an EpiPen. Bliss can’t stay around Lauren and cries to Nathan that she is trying to kill her. Nathan confronts Lauren, and she denies everything.

Once Bliss is better, she goes to the address from the locket, and the homeowner says Anna visited secretly and saved up money to escape. The homeowner gives Bliss a stack of letters. Anna saved over 20K. Lauren follows Bliss and tells her that Anna was stealing money from the family to go to Salt Lake City. Lauren warns Bliss to keep it all a secret.

When Bliss comes home, Lauren has completely changed her tune. Bliss sees bruises on Lauren’s wrist and accuses Nathan of hurting Lauren and forcing her to apologize. He is confused because he thought he was giving Bliss what she wanted.

Nathan sends Matt to a boarding school to punish Lauren. He tells the wives to get along or else. Bliss doesn’t want to bring a baby into this manipulative environment. She gets word from a detective that Carl is dead, and she asks the goofy farm hand to give her a ride to the train station. He records their conversation and brings Bliss back to Nathan, and chains her up.

Bliss freaks out on Nathan, but he gets violent quickly. He has been manipulating Lauren and Jenna with fear and also tries to break Bliss down. Nathan seeks out vulnerable women who will come to rely on him for their survival. Lauren brings Bliss food, and they try to talk through what happened to Anna. Bliss asks Lauren to help her get justice for Anna.

Bliss placates Nathan and pretends to go along with his vision for their relationship. All the wives work together to drug Nathan and get the evidence they need to incriminate him of Anna’s murder. He used AI to replicate Anna’s voice.

Nathan wakes up, and Lauren jumps on top of him to stop him. Bliss makes a run for it to go and get help, but she doesn’t make it far because Nathan chases after her. He is just about to kill Bliss when Nathan is shot in the back with an arrow.

So angry and so hot

The police arrest Nathan and the dorky farmer boy. Lauren, Bliss, and Jenna try to come to terms with what happened to them. They turn the farm into a home for wayward girls.

STRAY Thoughts

Although this wasn’t a cult movie, it was interesting to see how Nathan controlled these women and pitted them against each other.

I appreciate how the wives managed to keep the property and ultimately used it for a good cause.
