A college student finds himself at the center of a wealthy businesswoman’s deadly scheme.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins with a woman named Veronica being rescued from a car accident, and a body being taken away in a body bag while she cries. It is her husband or maybe her son, Jayson, who tragically died? Unclear, intentionally for MYSTERY!
10 years later, Veronica King is a guest speaker advocating for investments in technology. She speaks to a class about low-risk portfolios, but is distracted by a handsome student named Mike, who rolls in late to her presentation. He apologizes afterwards for his rude late arrival. (Veronica says Idea as IDERR, so I’m not sure about her.)
On campus, Veronica sees a woman dating two much younger men. She explains that they are her sugar babies, whom she found on a Sugar Dating app called Sugar Finder. (Pause, while I look this up because I need a Sugar Mama!) Veronica shows Andrew, her gay personal assistant, and he tells her to go for it, but Veronica pretends to be interested in the app from an investment standpoint. Later, she sees Mike on the app while doing “research.”
Mike already has a Sugar Mama named Beverley, but she breaks it off with him. Mike’s girlfriend, Gia, is upset because that is how they were paying for college tuition. Mike doesn’t want Gia doing sex work, so he is happy to take on the job. Gia and Mike find Veronica on the app and target her as their next cash cow.
Veronica does not need to be dating anyone because she is reading bedtime stories to her child’s empty bed. She is in therapy for grief, so that is good.
Mike and Veronica meet up to discuss Sugarfinders, and Veronica is very clear that she is not looking for companionship. She is looking to gain a deeper understanding of the business. Veronica offers 10K for Mike’s undivided attention for a few months.
Veronica invites Mike to join her for a work Gala and take him on a shopping spree. Cue a shopping montage! Veronica accidentally calls Mike “Jayson,” and it is an awkward slip-up.
At the Gala, Mike runs into Beverley, and she reconsidered firing him after seeing him all dressed up. Victoria is territorial and tells Beverley to mind her business! Beverley goes home and takes a bath, but she hears an intruder break in and is stabbed in the bath.
Speaking of Baths, when Veronica takes Mike home, she draws him a bath, and he thinks it is time for sexy time, so he goes in for a kiss. Veronica slaps him so quick and screams for “Jayson” not to disrespect her in her home. Later, Veronica apologizes, and Mike promises to respect her boundaries. She offers to tuck him in and read him a bedtime story.
The next morning, Mike has breakfast at Veronica’s insistence and notices he is dressed up like a picture of her son. When he comes home to Gia, she is extremely jealous. Gia thinks it is weird that Veronica is treating Mike like her son. He says he will do whatever because she is paying extra.
Veronica takes “Mikey” out for smoothies and tells him an app investor from the gala was interested in his ideas, but she turned him down on Mike’s behalf. He gets upset at the missed opportunity and goes home to vent to Gia. They hook up as Veronica watches from the window, or does she? Veronica blows up his phone and begs Mike to let her make it up to him.
SHE BUYS HIM A CAR?!?!? WITH A BOW ON IT!!!?!?!
Nora, a fellow student who is acting really sketchy, approaches Gia. The student warns Gia that Veronica is dangerous and that her sister died in a car crash that Veronica orchestrated. After talking to Gia, Nora is snatched up. Gia conducts online research and learns about Veronica’s troubled past. She is attacked next.
Mike thinks Gia has broken up with him, and when he tells Veronica about the relationship, Veronica is understanding and offers to let Mike move into her house, creating an interesting bedroom for him.
Andrew pops up out of nowhere and attacks Mike for stealing his spot. Veronica takes him to the hospital, and her friend, Dr. Greg, runs some blood work on Mike.
Mike learns that Gia is in the hospital from her attack, and he rushes to be by her side. Veronica is sympathetic to Gia and is sure that Andrew is behind the attack. Veronica blames herself and offers to pay for Gia’s medical bills and to move her into her home. Gia doesn’t want to go and goes into hysterics trying to stop Mike from going home with Veronica, whom she is sure is dangerous.
Mike asks Veronica about her husband and son. She is vague about the details and shows Mikey some postcards her son sent her. They watch a movie, and Veronica passes out. Mike gets a call from Andrew from prison, and he tells him that Veronica asks him to stage the fight.
Veronica starts dressing Mikey in PJs and locking him in his room at night. Veronica takes care of Gia sneaking into the hospital and poisoning her IV. Gia foams at the mouth, so we know she is a goner.
Mike finally realizes that he is being held captive in his new kiddie room. Veronica has taken his cellphone and all the objects from his room that he could use to escape. As he shouts for help, Veronica blasts Neo-Soul and dances around the kitchen.
Veronica and Dr. Greg tell Mike that Gia has died, and he is lost in despair. Mike goes back to his apartment and looks up Jasyon online. He tries to place distance between himself and Veronica. Mike visits Andrew in jail, and he helps him learn more about Veronica.
Veronica discovered that her husband was having an affair with his publicist, Carla. She confronted him, tampered with his car, and caused an accident that killed them both. Veronica even went so far as to follow the car and complete the job when Carla tried to escape. Veronica didn’t know her son Jayson was going to be in the car with them, and she inadvertently killed her own child.
Mike gets into his car and doesn’t check the backseat, a rookie mistake. Veronica syringes him and chains him in a storage closet. Mikey plays along with Veronica’s fantasy and calls her mom. The tactic works, but he eats drugged food and passes out.
Veronica lies with his passed-out body and reads him a bedtime story. Veronica is planning a trip where she will get away with her son and go off the grid forever. Mike isn’t going down like that and escapes from his room. He tries to get out of the house, but the doors are all locked.
This movie has lost its damn mind because Jayson is in the basement and being kept in a vegetative state on Life support. He is being kept with all the other dead bodies for some reason. Mike finds a way out and mistakenly goes to Dr. Greg for help.
Dr. Greg is in on it, and they have been planning to harvest his organs to revive Jayson, like some Dr. Frankenstein, stuff! That is crazy. This movie had me gagged. Haha!
STRAY Thoughts
I think Bobby Yan is one of the better directors in the TV movie space. He took a script that could have been overwrought with mystery and tells it in a refreshingly straightforward way, with lots of nods to horror/thriller elements.

The chandeliers in the bar about 25 minutes in. I have that same one in my kitchen!
Love it!
I thought it was a refreshing plot and a bit crazy. You knew the doctor was in on it. Why didn’t Mikey?
This was definitely one of the better Tubi-turned-Lifetime films as of recently! Plus it had some fine looking men so I’ll add extra points for that.
I’m sorry to dissent but I thought this was awful. Lol. But how I raced here to read your recap-review! 😅 I thought the premise was interesting but then it just went too unbelievable. You can’t revive a braindead person (kept in a basement for 10+ years? Lol) with a heart transplant, like wut? Lol. I also thought the acting was awful aside from Jibre Hordges. And we didn’t really get enough info about any of the characters. Oh well.
Yeah it was giving Frankenstein in the end hahah
Did I miss something? I don’t understand why Greg the doc was in on all this. Why the hell would he be the dr Frankenstein? Also, how long was her son in a vegetative state in the basement? Also, are we supposed to believe that Veronica was able to take Mikey from the basement upstairs to his supposed bedroom after she had drugged him?. How did she know Mike’s name when he walked into her lecture late? She didnt know him yet. Was she aware that mike wasn’t her son? Sometimes it seemed like she did and others it didnt. And last but not least, I was waiting for someone to burst in and save Mikey. After all, how could lifetime kill such a handsome stud?! I guess I’ll never know the answers to these questions. I need to stop being so analytical of these movies,it drives me crazy. Lol
