Synopsis (via Lifetime)

A romantic drama exploring how friendship, passion, and forgiveness collide. The story follows two best friends, Debra, a Type A doctor, and Shelby, a free-spirited rule breaker, as their lives intertwine with those of Leonard and Tyrese.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Two police officers standing at a nighttime scene, one pointing forward, with a vehicle and trees in the background. Text overlay includes 'EXECUTIVE PRODUCER CHET FENSTER' and the 'Lifetime' logo.

The second part starts with a car accident and the police. But we still have no idea what is going on.

TWO YEARS EARLIER

Tyrel and Shelby are playing house, and so are Debra and Leonard. They have been dating for 13 months, and Leonard’s show is a hit. They are both looking at homes, but Debra and Leonard speed ahead. They accidentally have sex in a model home, and Debra wanted to wait till marriage, so they get married.

A woman in a glamorous dress sipping from a champagne glass while looking towards the camera, with a man smiling playfully in the background during a festive event.

At the wedding, the friends plan a trip to Portugal. Shelby worries about how she will pay for the trip and takes out her frustration on Tyrel. Still, he manages to get her to talk about what is really bothering her. Shelby feels like she’s falling behind. Tyrell reminds her that life is not a race.

Debra, an OBGYN, is having trouble getting pregnant and is worried. Leonard tells her it will be all right. To add insult to injury, Shelby IS pregnant and worries about what it will do to her relationship with Tyrel.

A woman in a pink button-up shirt looks surprised while sitting on a couch and talking to another person off-screen. The background features a blurred room with abstract art.

It pretty much ruins it. Debra takes Shelby to the clinic and tells her to think about what she wants to do. Shelby comes home and tells Tyrel that she isn’t pregnant and the test had expired. He asked her if she had an abortion. Shelby says he knows all he needs to know. Then they break up.

They both rebound pretty quick. Tyrel hooks up with a hootchie mama from his new apartment complex. Meanwhile, Shelby meets a guy named Richard at DA CLUB. He is the rich guy that Debra dated a long time ago.

A romantic scene featuring a man and a woman about to kiss, surrounded by softly glowing lights in a decorated outdoor setting.

Months later, Shelby is living the lavish life with Richard. He proposes! Meanwhile, Tyrel is womanizing and doesn’t want to date seriously.

Debra and Shelby haven’t been talking since she got engaged. It is awkward because Richard went on one date with Debra. When Shelby does tell Debra, she is judgmental. Debra even tells her BFF to not rush into a wedding and think about reconnecting with Tyrel. JUST SAYING!

A man with visible injuries lying in a hospital bed, looking up at a woman who is leaning over him.

Leonard dies in a car crash, leaving a pregnant Debra alone. Tyrel moves in with Debra to help out. It makes for an awkward meeting between Tyrel and Richard at Leonard’s memorial services.

It isn’t about them, it is about these best friends! Debra and Shelby go for a drive, which is interesting! (Leonard just died in a car crash!)

Richard and Tyrel get into an argument, and it explodes into a convenient breakup for Richard and Shelby.

A surprised woman with short, wavy hair reacts emotionally in a scene from a lifetime movie, with a blurred figure behind her.

The driver of the car that killed Leonard shows up at Debra’s door, and she tells her off. Debra is competing with a criticket that chirps through her whole monologue. Upstaged by a bug.

Lenord’s memorial lasts pretty much the rest of the movie.

Three people pose together, smiling. The male figure on the left wears a shirt that says 'Uncle,' the woman in the middle has 'Mama' on her shirt, and the woman on the right wears a shirt that says 'Auntie.' The middle figure holds a wrapped baby.

Shelby and Tyrel get back together and help Debra raise the baby. The end!

STRAY Thoughts

Overall, this was a success for Lifetime, but I don’t think it needed to be two parts.
