Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When a woman’s best friend goes missing, she must work quickly to determine whether her friend’s abductor is someone close to home. (2021)

The movie begins with an argument gone wrong in a storefront. A man “accidentally” kills a woman.

Cut to divorcee Nikki and her tween daughter, Brooke; they are lost in a small town on their way to their new home. The girls are rescued by Gavin, a handsome/helpful stranger.)He also owns the town cafe.. so he is a good person to know.)

While exploring the town, the mother and daughter stop by a cute boutique. Nikki talks to a woman about how the shop owners are the WORST. The woman turns out to be Liz, owner of “Not Your Mama’s Closet.” Liz is amused by Nikki and asks Brooke a lot of questions.

Liz and Nikki become fast friends, and Nikki even starts working at the store. Liz has a daughter named Anna, who is the same age as Brooke, and both moms LOVE wine. Liz seems to have bad relationships with most of the men in town, including her ex-husband, Dan. (Who seems Angry!)

The movie has a Hallmark dull “family drama” vibe. I honestly kept getting distracted by my phone for this one. The music was so soothing, I almost fell alseep! Gavin gets Brooke a guitar and forms a romantic relationship with Nikki. Liz seems jealous because she used to date Gavin. Liz promises Nikki that she is fine with the new budding romance, as long as they take things slow.

While out on a date, Gavin invites Nikki to his cafe for dessert, which is the new “Walk me home?” Nikki tells Gavin about her ex-husband, who is absentee. He shares that his baby died of SIDS, and his relationship with his ex-wife couldn’t survive. He takes his relationship with Nikki by kissing and later buying her first-class tickets to Ireland.

Liz warns Nikki that she could be being manipulated by Gavin. Gavin was jealous of Liz and tried to isolate her from her friends and family. Nikki makes excuses for Gavin and isn’t too concerned; then, she can’t ignore the red flags when Gavin tries to do the same thing to her. She tells him that she doesn’t want a serious relationship and gives him back the tickets.

Brooke shows up at Nikki’s house and is concerned because Liz didn’t pick her up from a sleepover. Nikki rushes to the store to see if Liz is okay and finds the crime scene from the beginning of the movie. Nikki finds a broken glass and Liz’s phone. She calls 911 when she sees blood splatter on the mirror.

Detective Banks, who has a heart of gold, questions Nikki about Liz’s evening. Nikki tells her that Dan was arguing with Liz when she left the shop. Nikki neglects to mention Gavin was in the shop “checking on her” before calling the police.

Dan arrives the next day to pick up his daughter, and Nikki won’t let him take her because she is Anna’s temporary guardian. Dan and Gavin get into it and ALMOST get physical.

Even though she broke it off with Gavin, Nikki is thankful he is there for her in this difficult time. He admits that Liz wasn’t the best person and controlling. Then he implicates that Dan is involved and offers to hire a PI to look into Dan.

Gavin then goes to his basement, where he is keeping Liz tied up in loose ropes. He brings her food and locks her in the room. Liz tries to unlock her handcuffs with her earring, and it almost works until she drops it.

Nikki starts to look suspicious when the Detective shows her Liz’s will that states Nikki is the conservator for Anna’s inheritance and estate. (Which includes the store.)

Dan is next on Gavin’s hit list and Nikki realizes it when she is on the phone with Gavin as Anna dials her father worried. While Gavin is out getting supplies to bury the body, Nikki breaks into the cafe. She finds Dan, who is barely alive.

Instead of calling 911, Nikki sneaks around the cafe using keys between her fingers as a weapon. Then she finds Liz and unties her. Gavin finds them, but Nikki hides behind some flour. (Or whatever!) She still doesn’t call for help and instead grabs some wood and hits Gavin.

Gavin explains himself and says that he was just going to talk to Liz, but she made him so angry he lashed out. Then he covered it up to stay out of trouble. He begs Nikki to come out and talk to him. Nikki does come out and locks him in a closet.

Nikki grabs a set of keys and tries to unlock the front door, which is chained shut. THEN she tries to call 911 on the cafe phone. She eventually takes him out with a large frying pan. Liz and Dan are safe.

Nikki and Liz remain best friends and run the shop together.

Side Note

Minority Report: Liz, Anna, Detective Banks,

Raven Dauda is too good for this movie. She made the Detective more interesting than the leads. Good for her!
