Recap/Wine Thoughts
It starts with a woman by an airstream in the middle of nowhere. Is she hit in the face? Next, we see some windmills and a lady with the baby.
Flash to 17 years later, to some high school kids. Gavin is a bad boy with cute ears, BFF Michelle with quirky fashion, and our protagonist Sadie with her college-bound boyfriend, Jack. The couple pitch a green initiative called “Clean Sweep.” (Jack’s dad considers the proposal, and MAYBE Jack steals the idea.)
The couple doesn’t last long because Jack gets into a different school and talks about Sadie in the past tense. She breaks up with him and calls him a Jerk. (The man has a mullet and a plushy football, so the signs were already there.) Sadie’s mother, Taryn, is super supportive and tells her daughter that change isn’t bad. (The accurate advice is don’t plan your life/college around a high school relationship… I’ve been burned that way too.) Then there is a fight between someone and someone else. The scene is dark, and I’m not sure who they are. It’s too early in the movie for violence!
At a pool party, Sadie sees the bad boy, Gavin. (Unfortunately, with his shirt on.) and is still intrigued. He writes his number in LARGE ASS FONT on her arm. She, in return, writes her number on a piece of paper like a person from the ’90s. The flirting gets interrupted by a territorial Jack. (And a DNA test notification on Gavin’s phone. IDK!! This movie is throwing things at me left and right, not sure what is crucial right now.)
Sadie and Gavin start hanging out by the boardwalk and on the beach, and someone is unhappy about it. A stranger takes pictures of them from a distance. It is a good thing Gavin and Sadie love pictures because they send selfies back and forth, which is what the young peeps do these days. Oh, they also talk about dolphins as foreplay. (Which is weird, but it is what the young peeps are into, I guess!)
Gavin and Sadie realize that they are in danger! Gavin has a knife, and it makes Sadie uncomfortable. She wants to go to the police and thinks that it is Jack harassing her.
Tayrn grounds her daughter because she finds out that Sadie skipped school and is hanging out with a bad boy. It doesn’t keep Sadie from going out with Gavin for romantic teen dates. (No dolphins at this date!)
Cut to another party, where Gavin and Sadie are canoodling, and Jack gets jealous. Jack and Gavin get into a fight, and Gavin breaks Jack’s leg.
There is a mysterious man dressed in all black following Sadie around. Gavin gets spooked and gives Sadie his knife. “Sometimes showing it can really help.” He says while passing the weapon under the table.
Okay, I think here is what is going on. Gavin is the illegitimate child of Jack’s father. The men following them around are Jack’s father’s henchmen. One of them kills Gavin’s waitress mother because she wants to tell Gavin the truth. It is all wrapped up in a mystery package that I just don’t want to unbox.
Sadie learns about Gavin’s DNA test, but she is chloroformed and thrown in the back of a trunk before she can tell anyone. Sadie is held at gunpoint but starts coughing to distract the hitman long enough to grab the knife and stab him in the leg. She gets away and heads back to her mother. They call the police, finally!!!!!
Meanwhile, Gavin is dead???????? Maybe???? Sadie finds Gavin’s bloody phone by the trailer from the beginning of the movie and calls the police again. Then she confronts Jack, who reveals that the men fighting at the beginning of the movie were his father and Gavin. (Why is this a big reveal?!)
Sadie finds a stack of letters, and that means something!!!!!
Gavin wakes up in the hospital with Saide by his side. Gavin wants revenge on the man who killed his mother. That man is Jack’s father, who had an affair with his maid. (Ugh!!!!)
Jack’s father holds everyone at gunpoint while explaining it all, but Jack takes out his father with some crutches. Haha, okay.

*** I’ve updated the rating system moving forward start 7/26/2021. Knives represent # of kills. Wine is over enjoyment (NOT a value judgment) on a 1-5 scale.
I will use the following tags for those who want to know watch or skip: Pour it Up (Would Recommend) or Put A Cork In It (Would Not Recommend)
