Synopsis (via Hallmark)
Cat lovers Zachary and Marilee are thrown back together at Christmas when they’re tasked with finding homes for a litter of adorable kittens.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
So this movie is a re-teaming of Brandon Routh and Kimberley Sustad in Hallmark’s favorite cat movie. I haven’t seen the first one from 2014 (before my time as a TV movie blogger), so we’ll see how this goes.
Marilee is a vet with her own practice in Miami who is dating a handsome man named Miles. Marilee hasn’t been home in five years and returns with her cat, Duchess, in her arms. She stays with her sister, Jaclyn. They find an old advent calendar that their mother made before both their parents died.
Zachary Stone is a firefighter who works in a fire station filled with cats. (So many cats roaming around?!?) He heads out of town for a ski trip with his orange tabby cat, Ambrose.
Marilee and Zachary run into one another in the town square. He is dressed as an elf. They used to date but broke up when she moved to Miami. Marilee’s cat, Queenie, died four years ago, and she is still pretty torn up about it. They banter awkwardly.
Marilee quickly starts conveniently forgetting about Miles. He is too focused on work and cancels visiting the family for Christmas. They break up after dating for two years, and they are business partners.
A box of kittens, 12 in fact, is dropped off at the fire station. Zachary calls Marilee to help him get the kittens adopted.
There are many shots of kittens and handsome men holding them.
Zachary and Marilee spend Christmas looking for owners for the cats. They spend more time together and eventually make out in the fire station. Marilee thought she had put Zachary in the past and considered moving home.
Miles shows up to try to win Marilee back, but she isn’t interested. He offers to buy her out of the business. Zachary sees them talking and gets the wrong idea. Marilee tries to call him and explain.
Marilee and Miles talk to their cats, and they probably need to speak to their therapist. Marilee tries to call again, and his cat answers. She explains herself and cries. She expresses her love for him and tells him that he set a high bar for romance.
Zachary makes a grand gesture in his fire truck and apologizes for jumping to conclusions. He takes her to his new house and asks her to adopt a cat named Rudolph with him… oh, and her proposes.
Side Note
This movie felt VERY old-school Hallmark. I wasn’t too invested in this one because I hadn’t seen the first one, so for me it is a “Put a Cork in it”
