Synopsis (via Lifetime)

After single lawyer Chastity Jeffries meets Xavier Collins, he seems to be everything she is looking for in a partner. As his affection turns to obsession, Chastity realizes that she has been swept up by Xavier’s passion and abandoned her principles.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with Michelle Williams. (From Destiny’s Child fame.) being thrown into the trunk of a car by a hooded figure.

Six weeks earlier, we see Michelle Williams playing a busy single lawyer named Chastity, who has no time for dating.

Cut to a handsome man named Xavier breaking up with his fiance. She is scared of him because he punches a wall. His friend encourages him to go out and find another woman.

At “the club,” Xavier and Chastity meet and bond over both being lawyers and having the same birthday. He gives her his number in hopes they will go on a date soon.

Chastity isn’t interested in dating and spends her time visiting with her parents. (Her mother is played by Miss Tina Knowles!) They quote the bible at one another.

Xavier convinces Chasity to meet him for a drink and then into his bed. She thinks he might be a good guy because he really lays on the charm. Then they are quickly celebrating their one-month anniversary. They dance in the park while drinking wine, and Xavier spontaneously proposes to her. Chasity tells him that it is a romantic gesture but laughs it off as a drunk moment.

Frustrated that charms are not working, Xavier begins to let the cracks show. He becomes angry when Chastity brushes him off to finish a work deadline. He also gets jealous of a guy named Roger from Chastity’s past. Xavier has a whole scene in his underwear, which makes up for his bad behavior.

The couple starts arguing, and Xavier shows his true colors. He accuses Chasity of sneaking around on him and takes out his aggression on her cellphone. Xavier also gets in trouble at work and breaks the news to Chasity that he is agnostic. (Which wouldn’t go over with her religious parents.)

Xavier agrees to go to counseling for anger management and apologizes to Chasity with a new cell phone. She gives him a second chance and takes Xavier to meet her father. (Who is not impressed.) Chasity is angry that her father doesn’t approve of Xavier. Xavier gets upset that she needs her father’s approval so bad and pushes her into traffic during an argument.

Thankfully, Chastity breaks it off with Xavier. He taps her laptop and sends a briefcase to try to win her back. Chastity tells him to stop contacting her and asks her IT guy to wipe her computer.

When Xavier sees Chasity spending time with Roger, he steals her dog?! He holds the dog hostage and threatens Chasity. She calls the police and pepper sprays him to get away.

Finally, we get Michelle Williams singing! “Amazing Grace.” Chastity files a restraining order and takes a retreat at her parent’s house. She also gets some self-defense tips from a shirtless Roger. (They start hooking up.)

Xavier breaks the restraining order to tell Chasity that she is supposed to forgive him because she is a Christian. Roger defends Chasity, and a fight breaks out. The cops arrest Xavier. That doesn’t stop him from sending her a cow heart in a box. He also trashes Roger’s karate studio.

Chastity plans to leave town, and her mother gives her a gun to keep her safe. Just as she is about to leave, Roger is hit by a car. (The driver is Xavier.) Then Xavier kidnaps Chastity outside the hospital. He breaks her leg and takes her to a literal trophy room. He explains the wrath he is feeling.

A random/useless detective works with Chastity’s parents to try to find her. Chastity buys time and tells Xavier that she wants to help him get better and shares that she loves him. Then she punches him in the face and fights him off with the skillz she learned from Roger. (Including a mean chokehold!) Instead of killing Xavier, Chastity shows him Mercy instead of Wrath.

Six months later, Chastity visits Xavier in prison. He asks her to put in a good word for him at the parole hearing. She scoffs and tells him that she will pray for him. Then she makes up with her father, who always seems to be hating on her. Good for them!

*** I’ve updated the rating system moving forward. Knives represent # of kills. Wine is over enjoyment (NOT a value judgment) on a 1-5 scale.

I will use the following tags for those who want to know whether to watch or skip: Pour it Up (Would Recommend) or Put A Cork In It (Would Not Recommend).
