Alex (Sweetin) has wonderful memories of Christmas with her best friend Beth (Davies), until Beth starts dating Alex’s ex, Jesse (Pinard). Because she has missed the last few Christmases with family due to her demanding job as an architect, Alex is excited to spend the holidays with her mother, Caroline (Jane Wheeler), who is opening an inn in Switzerland. Much to her dismay, she learns that Jesse and Beth are also visiting for the inn’s opening. When Alex meets Liam (Rozon), a single father and the manager of her mother’s inn, Liam attempts to show her all the Christmas traditions and culture of Switzerland and helps Alex open herself up to love and forgiveness this holiday season.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Jodi Sweetin is an architect, like Mr. Brady, except she is spending Christmas in Switzerland… not Hawaii. Her mom, Carol Not Brady, bought an Inn in Switzerland on impulse after the death of Jodi’s father.
Carol makes the last min touches at the inn to open for New Year. Jodi Sweetin’s brother, Andy, is also helping run the inn. His wife Lindsey and son Noah are also working on getting things ready for the opening.
Jodi Sweetin meets Liam, the hotel manager, and is surprised to learn that he is sexy and her age. He takes her to a charming little shop, and they shop with literal baskets. (God, this is going to be a boring one, isn’t it.) Liam tells Jodi Sweetin they don’t have an event planner, and she jumps right in, picking out table decor.
Carol invites Beth and Nadine to the inn for the opening, and it pisses Jodi Sweetin off. Carol promises that Jesse isn’t going to be there. Sooooo the movie could have done a way better job setting this up. I guess Beth was Jodi Sweetin’s BFF and stole her boyfriend, Jesse. They both wish that they were… Jesse’s girl.
A snowman-building competition happens for no apparent reason.
Liam offers to show Jodi Sweetin around Switzerland in exchange for her helping with the grand opening. They meet up at a Christmas festival, and a parade comes in Samichlaus and Schmutzli (Santa and some weird guy who chases kids around with a broom and knocks them upside the head.) Then Liam talks about his wife’s death and raising his son, Kelby, on his own.
Unlike Beth and Jodi Sweetin, Carol and Nadien have stayed friends since they were kids; they are plotting to make their daughters friends again.
The inn’s chef offers a pastry tasting for Liam and Jodi Sweetin. He tells her about s Christmas Market, and she compares it to the KrisKindel market in Chicago… at Wrigley?!?! (Come on, Jodi!) Everyone tags along, including BETH!
When they get to the Christmas market, I have to admit it does look like the KrisKindel Market at Wrigley, haha. They drink hot wine, and I feel like everyone filming this movie might actually be cold. They light candles on a wreath, which is a Swiss tradition. Beth gets a call from Jesse and steps away; she tries to convince him to come. Jodi Sweetin hears Beth tell Jesse that she loves him and she is seething.
Jodi Sweetin talks to Liam about her beef with Beth. She can’t forget her best friend for dating her ex-boyfriend. Liam tells her that it is a shame to lose a friendship over a guy. I would argue she lost the friendship because of BETHS ACTiONS!
While making gingerbread men, they talk about the gingerbread man who runs away from everything and then gets eaten by a fox. I’ve never thought of that fable as a Christmas story, more of a nursery rhyme.
More Swiss traditions happen, but the vibe of them is drinking hot boozy beverages outside as a group, so people are together throughout the holiday season. They also don’t decorate their Christmas trees till Christmas.
Beth tries to come clean with Jodi Sweetin about her relationship with Jesse, but their conversation is interrupted.
Liam and Jodi Sweetin spend the day together and she really bonds with Kelby. She decides to stay in town a little bit longer for the opening of the inn. (Like that wasn’t her plan all along?)
Jesse shows up, and I’m not getting what the fuss is about; he is BASIC. Jodi Sweetin gets the clarity she needs for the relationship until Jesse off handily mentions that they are getting married. (Come on, my dude! WTF!) Everyone knew except Jodi Sweetin; her family should have told her.
Liam fixes everything with literally Swiss Hot Chocolate.
Beth doesn’t get the memo and confronts Jodi Sweetin. I don’t even know what happens because I don’t care about this friendship. Beth is a ho, bye!
Jodi Sweetin sings “Silent Night” with Kelby, and everyone loves it. Well. Everyone except Liam. He is upset that Jodi Sweetin has gotten so close to Kelby, and he doesn’t want her to confuse him by leaving his life just like Kelby’s mother, who died. Jodi Sweetin is like, “Woah, why is he so mad about singing, who is he, Captain Von Trapp!”
The following day, Liam apologized for his angry outburst and used the moment to bond with his son. He asks that Jodi Sweetin not get too attached to his family since she will leave for work. They say goodbye.
Jodi Sweetin decides to stay in Switzerland for a while and help with the inn. She tells Liam about her plans and gives an architect module of their house, and Kelby has a gift for Jodi Sweetin, a very intricate cut-out for a window display.
Liam and Jodi Sweetin decide to see where their relationship will go and kiss in slow-mo. Then sledding happens. Merry Christmas!

I appreciate how seriously bundled people are in this movie.
