Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Singer/songwriter Gail lands an opportunity to compete for a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the big time, and heads cross country—only getting as far as Harmony Springs, Oklahoma, when her ride, her budget and all her hopes are stalled. With just two weeks to get to the iHeartRadio Christmas Eve performance of her dreams, she takes the advice of local Jack-of-all-trades, Jeremy, and takes on a group of misfit kids hoping to perform in a Christmas Eve Gala of their own.  Gail and Jeremy grow close, but if she’s going to fulfill her lifelong dream, she may have to leave him and the town she’s grown to love behind.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Gale is a pub singer who wants to sing her music but is relegated to only singing covers while wearing a literal strand of Christmas lights. Her BFF Lila encourages her to submit herself to an iHeart Radio contest. The prize is a spot as an opening act for their huge Christmas Eve concert to be broadcast LIVE. She gets one of the spots.

Gale lives in a van (which she has named Jewel after the Alaskan singer who also lived in a van.), so it is easy for her to make the trip to the concert venue and, on her way, books small gigs along the way. She also live streams on Instagram and has gained quite a following.

The iHeart Radio rep, Walker, calls Gail and tells her that she will need to perform an original song. The call distracts her, and Gale runs into an Alpaca, wrecking her van and smashing her phone. Brooke Shields shows up and is a country woman from Harmony Springs, OK. Her name is Savannah, but people call her Van. (Yes, Van is going to fix Gale’s Van!)

Is the mechanic a hunk? I’m not really sure, his name is Jeremy, and he is a little rough around the edges. He tells Gale that the repairs will take two weeks and cost $2100.

To make money, Jeremy takes Gail to a Karaoke contest. Gail does a shuffle pick and plays it live on her guitar, which is pretty impressive. The crowd thinks so, too, and she wins the money! Then she goes back to sleep in her van.

Gail fills in as the town’s school music teacher. She will prep the kids for a Christmas Gala. In exchange, the principal will pay for the van repairs and will pay her expenses. They will have to shut down the music program after the Christmas Gala because they cannot keep it running.

The kids in the class are cute. There is a high-strung teacher’s pet named Sarah, a set of twins who like to rap, a quiet kid named Rosemary, and a kid with glasses! Gale is way over her head but tries to show the kids she is legit with a rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

The movie goes all Sister Act on us. Gale works with the kids to build their confidence up and tone it down in others. Then they decide to write a Christmas song together because Gale is struggling to come up with an original song for the iHeartRadio thingy.

Gale and Jeremy grow closer and share their past and plans for the future. Jeremy is building a house. Scarlet, the town’s mean girl, gets jealous that Jeremy and Gale spend so much time together. She tells Gale to put up pictures and memorabilia in his music room before leaving, and it pisses Jeremy off. It was his dead dad’s stuff, and Gale realized she had messed up.

Jeremy realizes he overreacted and has the class sing I’m sorry. The kids also gift Gale with some Christmas traditions to remember them by. Her car is all fixed up, and she has to go to the iHeart Radio Concert.

Gale sings the Christmas song to Jeremy in her trailer, and they hook up. She still needs to leave and hit the road. Jeremy sneaks out of the trailer and knocks over a pros and cons notebook that Gale was working on. He knows that she likes him and calls things off with Scarlet. Gale sees them talking and gets the wrong idea. He tells Gale to go because the world needs to hear her voice.

At the iHeart Radio event, the hosts/contestants are excited about Gale. It is all a little too mainstream for Gale, who gets a makeover. The weeks are all focused on trending on social media, not necessarily songwriting or the voice. They also want to change her name.

Gale performs for sound check, and it is off. The look and lights don’t vibe with her song. She stops in the middle of the song and runs to the bathroom to cry. It isn’t what she thought it would be. She calls Brooke Sheild, who encourages her and tells her that Harmony Springs will be here for her because they are her family.

Gale leaves it behind for the kid’s Christmas concert and helps them perform their original song. Harmony Springs wins the song contest and has the funds to keep the program going.

The kids and Brooke Sheilds stream Gale’s performance of “This is Christmas” into the iHeart Radio Contest from Harmony, OK.

Gale stays in town and grows the music program, she also moves in with Jeremy and turns her van into a recording studio.

Side Note

Annelise Cepero is going to be huge. She is fantastic.

This movie was so dark visually. Can we get some Christmas lights in that van or something?
