Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Sadie is ready for change in life as a worker in a luxury boutique store. One day, Jessica, a socialite, invites Jessica to a nightclub. They become quick friends. A night goes wrong when an after party is held at a man’s house Sadie just met when is he is out of town. Someone died and Sadie and Jessica must hide the body. Jessica has a dirty secret to hold over Sadie. The police are piecing clues that lead to Sadie. The people in Sadie’s life are put in danger. Starring Jonetta Kaiser, Kara Royster, and Jermaine Rivers (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts.

The movie starts with two girls in masquerade party gear dumping a body from their Tesla into the trash. They speed off as onlookers gawk.

Sadie walks home bloody and dazed while a voice-over plays, talking about a car accident.

Three days earlier, we see Sadie working in her cousin’s boutique. She recently left North Carolina and her family behind. Sadie tries on a dress while bored, and a Fashion designer named Owne Hunt walks in. He is so impressed with her look that he buys her the dress and invites her to a fancy party he is hosting that same night.

This man is hitting on the shop girl!

Sadie pretends to be a marking expert from LA and is impressed with Owen. They go to dinner and then talk about Romeo and Juliet. She isn’t into Shakespeare and seductively lures OWen out to the pool. Owen tells her he can tell she didn’t come from money because she talks about it too much, which is RUDE! (Someone watches them from the bushes.)

Creepy!

Back at the store, Jessica goes on a spending spree with Sadie, helping her pick out a dress for a party. Jessica pays in cash and invites Sadie and her Cousin Briana to join her for the exclusive event. The password for the night is “Candy Corn,” and the decor is Halloween. Jessica asks Sadie questions, and she lies lies. Jessica makes a joke about kidnapping Sadie but laughs it off with a champagne toast.

She never did end up kidnapping her

Briana warns her cousin not to lie too much because keeping straight will be a lot. Sadie tells her cousin not to worry and steals a Champagne bottle from the bar. Briana has had enough and leaves early, leaving the new friend to take the dance floor.

A random guy harasses Jessica, SO SADIE BEATS HIS ASS???!!?!?!?

The next day, Sadie gushes about Jessica and Owen and thanks her cousin for advising her not to be herself. She blows off Briana and her kids for pumpkin carving to go party. (It is around Halloween.) Sadie even closes the store as a favor to her cousin, but she really steals a dress for the night.

I’m not sure if I love or hate this store

Jessica asks to see Sadie’s place and brings the afterparty there. Since Sadie is poor, she goes to Owen’s house and pretends it is hers. The afterparty includes a lot of people doing drugs; one guy in particular sticks around, and Jessica tries to pimp him off on Sadie. He tells her Sadie isn’t interested and calls Jessica crazy, which is a mistake because she REALLY is! Jessica bludgeons him to death in front of a shocked Sadie.

The following day, Sadie wakes up and thinks it was all a dream. Jessica is making breakfast in the kitchen. Everything is normal, except for that DEAD BODY in the living room. Jessica tells Sadie that SHE killed Justin and claims to be helping cover-up her crime.

I love brunch, but not dead bodies

Jessica calms Sadie down in time for a cleaning up the dead body montage, set to some sultry jazz that doesn’t fit anything that is going on.

Undercover cops are onto Jessica and have been tracking her. They find video footage of Sadie and Jessica. partying with Justin.

Sadie and Jessica put on some masks and dump the body. It is a comically long scene where they struggle to throw the body into the dumpster.

While taking a shower, Sadie has a flashback to the murder, and the last few hours have been traumatic. Jessica isn’t into Sadie spending time alone and essentially stalks her at her job and Owen’s house. (Which Jessica thinks is Sadie’s house.) To keep Jessica away from Owen, Sadie tells her “friend” that they broke up.

To cheer her friend up, Jessica books a room at a classy hotel and hits up the mini bar on Sadie’s tab. (Well, really, a stolen company card Sadie took from her cousin.) Sadie asks how Jessica can act so normal, and Jessica says Sadie is her first real friend and covering up MURDER is what true friends do. Later, Jessica trashes the room, and Sadie gets charged a hefty fee for the damages.

Sadie gives Owen a thoughtful gift, but I can only focus on the crazy candle holder on the table. When Sadie leaves, the detectives arrive at Owen’s place with a search warrant. They question him about Justin’s murder and arrest him as a suspect.

This candle stick?!?! What?!?!

Jessica confronts Briana after she fires Sadie for stealing the company credit card. The police show up at Sadie’s house and arrest her for assaulting and attempting to kill her cousin, even though it was Jessica. Sadie tells the police that Jessica is trying to set her up. (Sadie’s father has a criminal record, and the police don’t think the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.)

After making bail, Sadie is surprised to see Jessica is wearing her dress. They go to Owen’s house, and Sadie is astonished that Owen is gagged and tied. Jessica explains that she wanted to get close to Owen, who is her ex-boyfriend. Jessica pulls a gun and calls Sadie a wanna-be, loser, poser.

Then, Jessica gives Sadie a knife and forces her to stab Owen while being held at gunpoint. Sadie tells Owen that Romeo and Juliet never had a happy ending and stabs him.

Sirens sound in the distance, and detectives apprehend Jessica. Sadie was working with them to capture her friend. Owen gets wheeled out, but he is really stabbed.

Through a flashback, we see Sadie planning it all with the detectives.

Briana is back at work and forgives Sadie for being the worst cousin. Sadie gives back the dress she stole, and thankfully, Briana tells her that she is still fired. Sadie is figuring out her life, and that is ok!
