Stars Teri Hatcher, Tahmoh Penikett (2024).
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Teri Hatcher plays Ruth Finley but will be called only Teri Hatcher from now on forward.
The movie begins in Witchita, KS, in the 1970s. A serial killer was tormenting the town. We see a man convince a young child to let him into the home, and he brutally strangles the boy’s mother while he is locked in the bathroom. BTK Killer leaves poems with the bodies. Teri Hatcher watches the news closely and is obsessed with the details. Her husband, Ed, warns his wife not to get so engrossed in the story because it isn’t good for her state of mind. He suggests a trip to Europe.

At work, Teri Hatcher’s coworker Susan, decked out in 1970s business attire, makes fun of her stagnant relationship with her husband. Susan gushes about a new boyfriend she is dating. (Could he be the killer?!)
The trip will have to wait because Ed has a heart attack and has to spend the night in the hospital. Teri Hatcher wants to stay with him, but he insists she go home and rest. Susan doesn’t think it is a good idea to stay home by herself with a serial killer on the loose. Susan ends up being right because a call with heavy breathing on the other end rings in the night. The caller talks about an assault that happened when she was sixteen. She was tied up and branded with a hot iron.

With Ed back at home, Teri Hatcher hopes things will return to normal, but she gets news clippings of her attack in the mail at home and work. She goes back to work while Ed recovers. Susan tries to get Teri Hatcher to talk about her stress, but work is a distraction. (AND SO IT THAT WALLPAPER!)

The harassment gets worse, and a man accosts Teri Hatcher on the street. Ed wants Teri Hatcher to report it to the police, and they think it could be the BTK Killer or a copycat. She tells them about what happened to her when she was younger and that the police never solved the crime. The calls and letters do not stop; they only intensify. (So do the BTK Killings.)
The detective working on the case keeps in touch with Teri Hatcher about the letters and the BTK case. She invites Detective Bernie and his wife to her house for dinner. They try not to talk about the BTK Killer case, but it is all they discuss. Ed takes Detective Bernie aside and shares his concerns about Teri Hatcher.

While leaving work for lunch, Teri Hatcher is attacked by the man who was accosting her on the street. He punches her and drags her unconscious body into his car!! Teri Hatcher wakes up in the backseat and tells her kidnappers that she is going to be sick to get them to pull over. She escapes her restraints and sprays the men with pepper spray to make a getaway. They leave her in the woods without shoes, and Teri Hatcher hides before walking to a gas station for help.

A new detective is assigned to the case, and he places patrol cars outside Teri Hatcher’s house. She sits down with a sketch artist to try remembering what the attackers looked like. She is constantly on edge, so Ed sits outside with a shotgun.

Teri Hatcher is attacked again and is in the hospital with a stab wound. The detectives are stumped. When she is released from the hospital, Teri Hatcher just wants a restful night. She sleepwalks, cuts the phone wires to the house, and starts a fire in bushes near the house. Then, the letters start coming to the detective’s wives.

Detectives find no witnesses for the attacks, and no one outside of the organization knows about the detective switch. They first come to Ed as a suspect, but he is adamant he has nothing to do with it and submits to a polygraph test. Then, he works with the police to get Teri Hatcher out of the house so the police can search the home. They find an unsent letter on Teri Hatcher’s stationery, and they have security footage of Teri Hatcher kidnapping her.
Teri Hatcher is interrogated next but has no idea what they are talking about. Even after they show her the footage, Teri Hatcher is confused and denies everything. They hold her in custody until she changes her tune. Ed helps get the truth from Teri Hatcher, and she pleads insanity and is admitted to a psych ward.
The therapist sits down with Teri Hatcher. They go over all the stressful events that have happened to her over the years, and she admits to not feeling her feelings and holding everything in. He asks Teri Hatcher to write a journal to document what she remembers. She says she thinks she has died and gone to hell.

The therapist diagnosed Teri Hatcher with dissociative identity disorder (Formerly known as multiple personality disorder.) and uncovers childhood trauma from being abused by a neighbor farmer. Teri Hatcher confronts her mother about the abuse and gets to speak her feelings and get everything out in the open. Teri Hatcher admits to stalking herself and unconsciously repressing her emotions.
Ed finds it in himself to forgive Teri Hatcher and stands by her side. They finally took that trip to Europe and enjoyed pinot noir in Paris.

Side Note/Stray Thoughts
I think Teri Hatcher just took on this role for the wardrobe.
