Real estate developer Gracie’s (Tamara Almeida) ambitious new project faces an unexpected roadblock when she stumbles upon a quirky detail from the past: the charming Christmas tree farm she has purchased once raffled off tiny one-foot deeds to local families, each holding a sentimental piece of the land. To salvage her vision, she must team up with local historian Jack (Cody Ray Thompson), embarking on a heartfelt quest to track down these families and persuade them to part with their cherished slices of the farm.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Gracie rushes to work in a warm environment, pretending to be cold. She works on a project for an eco-friendly hotel design. The deadline gets pushed up, and Gracie has to finish the designs before Christmas. While reviewing the map with her co-worker, she’s obsessed with owls but given no name! They see some sold land on their development.
Gracie rushes two hours out to Happy Hallow to see what the small sold lands are. She is sent to the historical society and meets Jack. Jack is a handsome man who rides a bike and has a perm. They review the map, and Jack discovers one square plots of land was auctioned off in 1965. The deeds are official and still valid, making the hotel build a no-go.
The owner of the Christmas tree farm has already sold the land and is annoyed when Gracie stops by unannounced. Ms. Carbell is a reclusive widow and was only a kid when the auction happened. She thinks the hotel will be good for the town and says it would be an excellent venue for the Christmas Ball. When Gracie asks Ms. Carbell if she remembers anything about the raffle winners, one was the town heartthrob, there was a woman, and another wore shorts and sandals.
At the town diner, Gracie runs into Jack again and promises she is not stalking him. He admits he isn’t a huge fan of the hotel name “Happi.” She offers to help the historical society get more funding in exchange for the names of the landowners.
They track down the son of the man with the shorts and sandals. He agrees to hand over the deed as long as Gracie partners the hotel with his adventure business. They must also jump into a freezing cold lake for the polar plunge.
Jack remembers there is a senior sockhop for all the old people in town. They go dance and try to scope out the guests to see if they remember the hottest teen in town 59 years ago. They find him quickly because he is practically the only old man there. The man tells Gracie that he isn’t the most eligible bachelor in town; Jack is! She knows and is totally falling for Jack and his awkward charm.
Jack and Gracie talk more to Ms. Carbell the following day, and her memories of the winner are even more unhinged. Something about a dust monster and radishes. Then they go out into Happy Hallow and look for clues. While they do, Jack explains the town’s historical charm and Gracie tells him that the hotel will be good for the town and better than the alternative… a parking garage.
Gracie and Jack throw spices at one another at the annual town spice fight. It is a strange and wasteful tradition. One of the participants, Viggo, explained that it started with a Danish tradition his family had of throwing cinnamon. Viggo is against the hotel and is proud of his deed stopping Gracie’s hotel plan. Gracie tries to convince him she will honor the town’s traditions and improve the town, too. It doesn’t work.
December 23rd is Noche De Los Rábanos, and families happen to carve radishes there. Jack and Gracie see if they can find the woman with the deed, and they do! A woman remembers her mother winning and is fine parting with the land.
Jack invites Gracie to the Sleigh Ball and buys her a dress. He is a low-key two-timer because he also invites Ms. Carbell. (To get her out of her house.) She agrees to go if he admits he has feelings for Gracie. He chickens out at the dance.
Gracie might not have the man, but she does get Viggo’s blessing to build the hotel, and he gives her his deed. He tells Gracie that Jack is the one for her, and she is running out of time to tell him how she feels. She doesn’t do that either and tries to convince Jack to move the ball to the hotel next year. HE DOESN’T WANT TO LOSE THE TOWN HISTORY!!!
Gracie gives a passionate speech to everyone at the Christmas tree lighting and thanks the townspeople for teaching her why the place is so special.
Amy, the owl friend, shows up and meets the polar plunge guy. They both share an obsession with owls and run off together.
Jack and Graci make up and make out! The hotel, Happy (no I now, that fixed it! ) is also ago!
