Synopsis (via Netflix)
Two years after losing her husband, Cathy magically brings a handsome snowman to life! Through his naïveté, the snowman helps Cathy to laugh, feel and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays… and before he melts.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with a Frosty hat blowing in the wind and our Snowman narrator telling us this isn’t our typical Christmas fairy tail.
Lacey Chabert bundles up to get out of bed in the morning. The heat is broken in her house, there is a leak in the ceiling, and her husband is dead. Lacey Chabert owns the local town diner, and Chrishell Stause is her favorite customer?!??!?!?!?!!? Lacey Chabert brings lunch to a local thrift store where the owner may be a witch. The lady gives Lacey Chabert a red scarf and tells her no one finds true love without going out into the cold and looking for it.
Lacey Chabert walks around town and looks at the entries for the town snowman competition. She puts her scarf around a statue of David looking “Hot Frosty.” and takes his picture. Right as she walks away. The snowman comes to life, and he is hot and naked. The scarf covers him in just the right spots to keep this PG. (Unfortunately for me.)
The snowman gets clothes by stumbling into a store window and putting some on. Lacey Chabert finds him the next morning talking to snowmen and brings him to the diner for a hot meal. When the snowman can’t remember his name and claims he is the snowman, Lacey Chabert feels his forehead and takes him to the doctor.
The town sheriff (Craig Robinson) and his Deputy (Joe Lo Truglio) look into the break-in. They are very serious about crime but not much else!
At the doctor, Jack… the snowman, appears to be sweating but only reads 30 degrees for his temperature. He asks Lacey Chabert to take care of him because he trusts and loves her. Lacey Chabert reluctantly takes him in and tells him she can’t just tell everyone he loves them; love takes time. Lacey Chabert puts Snowman Jack in front of the TV. (Specifically, it is a Netflix Christmas movie featuring Lindsay Lohan.)
Jack learns a lot from TV. Cat videos, cooking tutorials, and one creepy Nosferatu. (Dustin Milligan is crushing this role.) He goes into the basement and finds a box with Lacey Chabert’s dead husband’s medical records; he died of cancer. Then he cooks dinner for Lacey Chabert and takes everything she says literally. He asks Lacey Chabert what cancer is and why it happened to Paul. Lacey Chabert says he died quickly and did home repairs. She hasn’t done much work on the house since he died. Then they eat Pizza and watch Hawaii travel videos.
Lacey Chabert tells Jack to stay in the house and lay low. He watches videos about home repair and starts fixing the roof shirtless. (Much to the delight of me and a very horny Lauren Holly.) She recruits the other neighborhood ladies to hire him for handyman work. They drop him off at the diner, and Lacey Chabert reminds him he is supposed to be lying low! The Sheriff is suspicious of Jack, and they get into a silly ice-eating contest. Lacey Chabert rushes him out of there before the cops ask him more questions.
After an argument, Lacey Chabert comes home and discovers all of Jack’s repairs. She apologizes for being so hard on him and thanks him. Jack worries that he will become a puddle and wants to make the most of his time as a real man. Lacey Chabert lets him help plan the Winter Wonderland ball at the high school to fill out his days.
They decorate and set up the ball in a cute little montage. Jack is really good with the students; they all love him.
Lacey Chabert hasn’t taken care of herself since her husband passed away and can’t love anyone, let alone a snowman. She opens up to Jack, and he tells her that she is an amazing person and that Paul sees her the same way.
Jack apologizes to the store owners and replaces the shop glass (with Lacey Chabert’s credit card on her computer.) Then he makes friends with the Deputy and gets dating advice to kiss and slow dance with Lacey Chabert. He invites Lacey Chabert to go to the school dance with him.
Cue a SHOPPING MONTAGE. (Complete with the Pretty Woman song.)
Jack and Lacey Chabert get all dressed up for the dance. He gives her a snowflake necklace because he is a snowman. At the dance, Jack and Lacy dance, and he is on the dance floor so much he almost melts. Lacey Chabert takes him out for some air, and they almost kiss, but Jack pulls away. He doesn’t want to leave her behind and hurt her. They hug instead.
The Sheriff gets footage from an ATM and catches Jack streaking. He makes an announcement in front of the whole town and arrests Jack on Christmas Eve. Jack is ready to take responsibility and goes off with the Sheriff. He tries to take fingerprints at the station, but they don’t read.
Lacey Chabert rushes to the prison to help the sweetest man she has ever met. The Sheriff won’t let Jack out of the prison, and it is too hot for Jack. The townspeople all rally together and all accept that Jack is a snowman who came to life. They want The Sheriff to let Jack go and come up with the bail money. The Sheriff agrees to let Jack go and gives the money back.
They carry a melting Jack back into the snow, and it might be too late. Lacey Chabert tells him she is falling in love with him and promises to make the most of it however long he stays. She kisses him and takes off his scarf. It is too late.
The townspeople start to leave, and Jack wakes up. Everyone cheers as they embrace. He is cold! Jack is human! They make out, and everyone cheers more.
Jack and Lacey Chabert open Christmas presents, and he gifts her a furnace repair book. The heat is on in more ways than one. She books them a trip to Hawaii.
Side Note/Stray Observations
Lacey Chabert moving from Hallmark to Netflix blows my mind. How was this allowed, and how does she still have a Hallmark movie as well? True Queen of Christmas.
Very cute Christmas movie; my parents slept through it!
Blooper Reel?!?!?
