Monica meets Anthony online, and believes she’s finally found a real connection. She then decides to meet Anthony in person but is unaware Anthony harbors a dangerous secret – he’s a serial killer preying on women through dating apps.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Monica, a recently divorced single mother of a teenage boy, Issahia, is about to be an empty nester. Monica’s BFF, Laila, takes her out for drinks and pushes her to date on the apps, not in church.
Meanwhile, the dating app killer is setting up dates and killing. As his name would suggest! His MO is flattery, drinks, and MURDER. (Is this based on a true story? Maybe I shouldn’t be so glib.)
After a few failed Church dates, with one guy who loves taxes, Monica sets up a dating profile… on her laptop. The dating app killer finds her, and they start messaging. He goes by Anthony. Anthony is not only a garbage person, but he is also a literal garbage man.
Anthony and Monica go on a date, and she doesn’t fall for his usual routine. Monica asks REAL questions to get to know him and trades a bar meet up for Pho. (Can I go on a date with Monica, please?) Monica is a great date.
After the date, I expected Monica to send him on his way, but she invited him to sleep on her couch, and they made out. Anthony opens up about his ex-girlfriend, Sky. (Who died, and maybe he killed?) Anthony watches Monica sleep, and it is creepy. He goes out and gets a job immediately, wanting to move in and play house.
Detectives look into the slew of murders in the DMV area. Are they looking for a serial killer? A Dating App Killer? News of the victims goes viral, but Monica doesn’t make the connection.
Monica invites Anthony to her birthday party, where he will meet her son for the first time. On the bus ride down, Anthony creeps out fellow riders. He makes a better impression on her friends and family, but can’t help looking for his next victim. Word gets back to Monica that he was hitting on her 19-year-old niece, Jasmine, and she kicks his ass out! He doesn’t leave and just stands outside.
Laila helps her friend call the police and report Anthony’s strange behavior. The police pick him up and arrest him. Monica feels foolish and prays to Jesus.
THAT IS THE END!
