Synopsis (via Lifetime)
The story of a 41 year old woman who goes back to college to finish up her last year of school. While there, she becomes good friends with a classmate, who turns out to be the son she gave up 20 years earlier.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Musician Mary decides to go back to school after over ten years from her last college course. She is starting life over and moves into a new place in her hometown with an old piano. Megan reunites with an old friend, Meghan. (The fabulous Loretta Devine.) They drink wine and catch up.
Mary runs into her son, Noah, at a college party. Noah is from a well-to-do family who expects their son to go to Harvard. Mary wants to become his friend, but Loretta Devine advises against it. Fate has other plans, and Lawerence is assigned as Mary’s peer tutor. They basically play piano together, and he invites her to his 21st birthday party.
Hunky professor Matthew encourages Noah to pursue a music theory degree and seems to have a history with Mary.
Mary spends more and more time with Noah and encourages him to pursue music. (That is not part of his parent’s plan!!!) Noah misinterprets Mary’s interest in him and makes a pass at her. Mary packs up her things and is about to run away again until Loretta Devine talks some sense into her. Mary and Noah have an awkward conversation, but he eventually invites her to his family’s Christmas party AS A FRIEND.
Mary and Matthew start spending time, and he is very into her music career just as much as her body! He helps her finish a song that she has had writer’s block on for years. They have cute chemistry, but this movie is super boring. Mary opens up to Matthew about her biological son, and he takes it pretty well. (Especially since he knows him already!)
Inexplicably, Mary goes on spring break with Noah. They work on his music but are caught in the beach home by his parents, who know that Mary is their son’s biological mother. Mary gets into an argument with Noah’s father, who told his son that Mary didn’t want her child. They come clean to Noah, who doesn’t take it well and tells Mary he never wants to see her again.
After finding out that his father covered it up, Noah comes running back to Mary to apologize. He puts his heart and soul into his piano recital, and Noah’s dad realizes that he has real talent.
It is graduation! Mary and Noah graduate together, which is nice! Mary finally completes the song she has been struggling to finish and ends up with Matthew.
Noah and Mary ride bikes together and are friends again. Well, mother and son. The end!
